Check the underwater plants. Maybe there's a hidden plant behind it. If you don't find it, restart the game.

@g-man it didn't disappear after you used it so it's somewhere, you have to find it.
In the Polish version of the game, the incense does not disappear and there is an infinite number of lives.
The incense was in the the vase after I'd used it on the area with 4 doors. After I'd been in the door and got what I needed, I picked up the incense and it just disappeared from my inventory. I thought it might have respawned in its original location but it hasn't. looks like the only solution is to restart
Regarding this incense, the game version shouldn't matter, as the game code remains unchanged. Only the dialogue has changed, and it doesn't affect the gameplay.

I think that I might have to find one hostage, because i still needs 20 coins, have used the intense, but when entering the room, there is a button that i have pressed, and also some vent higher up, is it possible to reach that vent? thanks again Granddad for a fantastic game :)
What items do you have?
I have bat spell, sun book, magic glasses and secret rooms spell, left the incense where it should be :)

Secret rooms spell - Put the secret rooms spell in your pocket. Check the locations. You'll find red darts.
Incense is used 3 times. The 3rd time you use incense is at the end of the game.
Hi guys, I am really stuck. I am at the beginning. I opened the red door and changed the levers etc, no problem. Found the bit of paper with numbers on walls. I haven't a clue what this is about. I assume it has something to do with the steps where the monsters are. There, I have two green ones that I can piggyback on. I'm sure there must be other steps, but no idea how.☹️ Any help/hints would be appreciated.
You need the magic glasses.

Thanks. I will try to find them. If I remember correctly, I think you just touch them, and they disappear.
I cannot find the last two hostages in level 2. I have searched and searched and used the secret room spell. Any hints/help etc would be appreciated
@hammermalc It's been a while since I played this - have you found the one by the armchair (hope I'm in the right part of the game). You 'run' up onto the little shelf on the left wall (you must be wearing your magic glasses to see it) - then run straight across to the right into the centre of the room. An invisible platform appears attached to the little box in the top right hand corner with a hostage. Hope this helps. (Soz if I'm in the wrong part of the game).
