Fan Games That Weren't - Part 1
Here at The Dizzy Fansite, we're absolutely delighted to house over 300 fan-made Dizzy games, a few of which were released as far back as 1992.
Unfortunately, there were some fan games that were either lost in time or never saw the light of day.
On this first part, we share some titles that were documented around the net or on this site.
Apologies if there's any I've missed out, there are loads out there and its difficult to keep track!
DIZZY WHO SEQUELS
Peter Teal - c. 2000/2006/2019
Back in 2000, Peter introduced the newly-created Dizzy Community to a Dizzy/Doctor Who crossover.
The original version of Part 1 (Into the Tardis) was made using Clickteam's Games Factory, then remade using DizzyAGE in 2006 and upgraded in 2019.
Upon completing the first part, the ending had teased the possibility of a sequel with Dizzy and the Doctor revisiting the Dizzy TUCA map (or the Treasure Island map on the 2019 version).
After remaking Dizzy Who on DizzyAGE, Peter went on to make DizzyAGE remakes of the first six original Dizzy games.
It was thought that once those remakes were completed, he could use the maps to make sequels for Dizzy Who.
Sadly, due to time constraints and possibly other things, the sequels for Dizzy Who were never made.
ABSOLUTELY EGGSPATULA
Melanie Hoyle - c. 2001
This was to be a whack-a-mole-style game where you are appointed by Zaks to whack Dizzy and the Yolkfolk with a spatula.
There was a screenshot on the old Dizzy Zone site which is now lost.
It's not known how much of the game was made but is now likely to be lost due to PC problems.
DIZZY - RETURN TO THE SPECTRUM / RETURN TO THE AMIGA
Andrew Joseph - c. 2001
This game was only released as a teaser.
It was to use Spectrum graphics, familiar characters, 150 rooms and re-uses some of the stories from the original games.
But due to time constraints, the game didn't get far in development.
Andrew did also have a similar game planned called 'Return to the Amiga', but was never given a teaser.
DISCO DIZZY
Melanie Hoyle - c. 2000/2001
This game was only released as a teaser.
"Dizzy and the Yolkfolk are organising a disco party to celebrate the anniversary of Zaks' defeat.
However, what they don't realise is that Zaks is alive and well and he possesses Daisy in an attempt to ruin the Yolkfolk's party."
Progress had been made on this game at the time, but it was all lost after Melanie experienced some major PC problems.
PLATFORM FEVER I, II AND V
Sam Walker - c. 2001
A well known member of the Dizzy Community from back in the day, Sam released a different sort of fan game series called 'Dizzy - Platform Fever'.
Sadly, the original versions of 'Platform Fever I' and 'Platform Fever II' were lost after Sam's computer crashed.
Sam was determined to make the first two Platform Fever games all over again, starting with the first game titled 'Goldenegg', which only made it as a playable demo.
The other Platform Fever games were never finished.
Only 'Platform Fever III' exists as a full game.
With 'Platform Fever I' and 'Platform Fever IV' remaining as demos.
On a side note, the old Dizzy Zone site gave mention of a fifth Platform Fever game called 'Platform Fever V - Dizzy and the third Yolkmension'.
DIZZY R SPEED 2
Adam Markey - c. 2004/2005
My early fan games weren't overly great due to various bugs commonly seen on Clickteam's Games Factory.
Sometime around late 2004/early 2005, I started work on a sequel to a previous 'Dizzy R' game called 'Dizzy R Speed 2', which was going to be similar to the previous games but with additional graphics and MIDI's of well known chart-topping hits at the time.
A demo featuring the first few levels were uploaded to Yolkfolk.com while I continued working on the remaining levels.
Sadly, the PC I was using had died and all my hard work had been lost.
What's more, the demo that was on Yolkfolk had accidently got lost due to a host/domain change.
Today, the only remains of 'Dizzy R Speed 2' are a few screenshots.
On a side note, the very first three Dizzy R games titled 'Dizzy R', 'Dizzy R2' and 'Dizzy R3' were complete but all lost from the same PC disaster.
They were 4 player games inspired by a bizarre Sonic fan game called 'Tails R'.
They weren't the greatest of creations, so probably for the best that they're not here.
However, I did make a revamped 1 Player version of the first Dizzy R game which is available to download on this site.
DIZZY - ZAKS' REVENGE
Matt Stapleton - c. 2006/2007
Some point in the past, Matt had always wanted to make his own Dizzy adventure.
The original screenshots he supplied looked promising.
Then in 2009, he released footage of another game with same title on his YouTube channel.
But several years later, Matt announced another game also titled 'Zaks Revenge' which was going to be a 3D game.
Other projects of Matt's came and went, but none of them ever got finished.
FANTASIC DIZZY ENGINE (FDE)
Graham Houston/Housty - c. 2006/2007
Known as 'Housty' on the previous forums and 'Zaks' on the current forums, Graham had announced a project called FDE, which was set to be an accurate remake of the game engine from Fantastic Dizzy.
Graham had hinted that he'd been working on the engine throughout 2006 and 2007, although I can't remember how far he got with the project and we haven't heard from him since then.
DIZZY - BACK IN TOWN
Sam Sexton - c. 2000/2001
This was first mentioned on the old Dizzy Zone and Dizzy Remix Zone websites.
No screenshots were ever released, but it did come with an interesting idea for a story.
"The evil Dizzy Doppleganger has stolen Zaks' powers and only Dizzy can stop him by travelling back in time to prevent the Doppleganger from stealing Zaks' powers in the first place.
But getting the bits to create a time machine are proving a little difficult as the residents of Zakeria are not as generous as they used to be."
Not much else had been heard about this game, so likely just another one of those nice ideas that never saw completion.
WONDERWORLD DIZZY
Ben Paddon - c. 2001
This was going to be a fan game for the Amiga, using Crystal Kingdom's graphics and made using the 'Reality Software Construction Kit'.
"Just before Dizzy's first game outing, Dizzy (for no particular reason) entered a Yolkfolk Lottery.
Just recently, he found out he did win but the letter has been at the Post Office for about 10 years!!!
So he's grabbed his cheque, cashed it in and for no particular reason he's paid for him and the rest of the YolkFolk to set off on a round-the-world trip. And that's where we are when we start WONDERWORLD DIZZY.
No, wait. It isn't.
Y'see, during the flight, a relative of Zaks sabotaged the plane and sent it into another dimension!
This dimension is even weirder than the one he came from but none the less, Dizzy paid for this trip and he wants to enjoy it, despite the fact that the plane is about to crash.
However things got more difficult as now he has to find Crumbs (Zaks relative, by the way) and steal his magic book to get home!"
It was also to feature an original character called Davey and Melanie Hoyle's character Dina.
According to the site's diary, Ben got as far as making the intro for the game but showed no screenshots.
He had a number of problems along the way and decided to cancel the project until he got the right resources to continue it.
No one has heard from Ben since the early 2000's.
ARCADE DIZZY
Andrew Joseph - c. 2001
This game was only released as a teaser.
The intro shows Dizzy riding a helicopter, then driving a car to the arcade.
Arcade Dizzy was to feature a small number of mini-games, including Dizzy Spinball.
But due to time constraints and other commitments, the game didn't get far in development.
DIZZY 3D
Paul Baker and Tom Baker - c. 2001
This was a 3D Dizzy game using the 'Doom Engine' where you go around shooting Dizzy characters.
This was one of many 3D Dizzy fan games that were forced to stop by Codemasters back in the day.

DIZZY IN THE 3RD DIMENSION
Jody Gallagher - c. 2002
This game was first mentioned on the old Dizzy Zone site.
"Zaks has cast one of his most powerful spells ever and has changed the world of 2D to 3D!
It's going to take Dizzy and the Yolkfolk some getting used to."
This was one of many 3D Dizzy fan games that were forced to stop by Codemasters back in the day.

DIZZY O7
Silver - c. 2002
This fan game was to be a James Bond style adventure.
"The evil wizard Zaks has lost his powers, but that doesn't stop him from wanting to take over the world.
This time he's going to threaten the world with a nuclear missile (like all bad guys do) and it's up to our egg-headed hero to stop him."
Not much else had been heard about this game, so likely just another one of those nice ideas that never saw completion.
FAST FOOD REMAKE
Anthony Sherratt/Shezzor - c. 2005
Having previously released a PC remake of Dizzy TUCA under the name 'Crystal Fusion', Anthony (Shezzor) wanted to do a remake of Fast Food.
On one of our previous Community Forums, Shezzor had showed us some detailed sprites and graphics he made.
A modified version of one of the screenshots was even used on a previous incarnation of Yolkfolk.com (now lost).
Sadly, we never heard from Shezzor since then and he never re-registered on the current Community Forums.
It is a real shame to see those graphics that Shezzor worked on vanish into thin air.
DIZZY WORLD PAINTER
Mark King/Zimbu - c. 2005/2006
This was one of the playable games that was tragically lost.
Mark was a member of one of our previous Community Forums who showed us his own fan game with their own stunning graphics.
The only proof we have of the game's existence was from an edited screenshot on a previous incarnation of 'The Keldor Newsletter'.
In 2023, that screenshot was posted on Yolkfolk's social media page, in which Mark commented on via Facebook.
"The world painter is mine. I tried to make a new engine with an editor included.
The game I had planned to demo it with was "Curse of Khatmandu" which would have revisited the poem from TUCA.
Unfortunately I didn't get further than a few demos and proof of concepts before the computer I used got stolen.
I did some reworking of the Curse of Khatmandu into an arcade game based more heavily on Green Eye of the Little Yellow God, before it became apparent the whole idea was very colonial in ideas and I abandoned it."
UNAMED XMAS DIZZY GAME
Andrew Oakley - c. 2006
Andrew, who was known as 'AndyOaks' on our previous Community Forums shared a christmassy screenshot of Dizzy and Dylan on a snowy street.
While I can't fully remember what became of this game and what its status was, the only proof of its existence is again through an edited screenshot on a previous incarnation of 'The Keldor Newsletter'.
That is most of the cancelled games recorded from the early years of the Dizzy Community.
Again, apologies if there's any more titles that have been missed from that era.
As said above this page, there are loads!
