Default Dizzy the Adventurer NES Tool-Assisted Speedrun Video

I recently created a Tool-Assisted Speedrun of the NES game Dizzy the Adventurer.

For those unfamiliar with the term, a Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS) is an emulator made movie using slowdown and save-states to play the game as fast as possible. Unlike a regular speedrun where playing skill is key, a TAS involves analysis of the game and a lot of brute force to determine the fastest possible strategy.

You can view the movie on YouTube curtesy of speedruns.net

Or, download a high quality video and read an in depth commentary at the mother of all TAS sites, tasvideos.org

Figured someone here would enjoy this!

Haha, the Dizzy games have great dialogue.

My personal favourite from this one is:

Dizzy: Well I only gave her a jokebook.

King: Ah! But it's the way you gave it!

    Glad you liked the movie

Dizzy isn't exactly your typical speedrun fare, but well done; it was very enjoyable. Your cloud jumping in particular was excellent.

How many save-states did that run take you - roughly?

    glad you liked it ingolemo

yes, the cloud jumping was the trickiest part, and where stuff happens where it shouldn't, like jumping under st peter's gate and jumping to and from the juggling balls.

i only used about 4 savestate slots at a time, but according to the file i started rerecording the movie 8408 times :0

that's not to say i rerecorded from the beginning 8000 times, but i did go back and "undo" from a savestate that many times

    Tool-assisted is noobish.

Not bad certainly, but I bet you could easily cut that time down (like where you died in the water and stuff)
