    Exclamation Dizzy3D ?

    Hi,

I'm little bit confused - there are many fans of Dizzy who created some game but why someone make 3d version?

Hi, I don't quite understand your question but I'll try and answer it.

Well as of now, there is one downloadable 3D game by Eric Park here.

Very few people attempted making Dizzy 3D games which didn't get finished, either because of personal lives or being forced to stop by Codemasters.
From what I remember back in The Dizzy Zone days, a few 3D fangames were attempted but all of them were stopped because of Codemasters' lawyers stepping in.

Sorry if It's not the answer you're after.

yes it is, they co-own the copyright.

Codemasters own the trademark, not the copyright.

oh bugger there goes that secret cunning plan (should really visit more often)
I've had a 3D Dizzy on the backburner for awhile, over the years I overcame the problems, namely at the time I sucked at characters, even something as simple as an egg, then bones animation (still suck but I get by) big worlds.. I got a job, now its engine choice ..

anyway Is it the name or character that's the issue?
How far does this go? Surely a game using Megadrive Dizzy style graphics would also break copyrights/trademark,l I would of thought anything 3D would be totally unique, nothing except the character name would be anything to do with Codemasters.
Would the same apply to a 2D game that wasn't done with DizzyAge?

ummmm I think it's likely to be both the name and the characters that are the issue. Anything else, I imagine, would probably be fine.

I guess Codies probably reckon that there's very little chance of them ever doing another 2D game, so are happy to let people play around with that concept (within reason), but they probably don't want fans to do a 3D game using the name and characters, because that would then undermine any possible 3D game that Codies themselves may decide to release in the future (even though there is no hint of one at present).

As far as I can tell, Codies treat all 2D fan games the same, regardless of which engine they're made with.

ahh, right, I see your point, stranger things have happened, Monkey Island came back in both 3D and 2D.
Lucas Arts have always been tight with the copyrights, there's been quite a few fan games closed down, were as Sierra tend to be bit more tolerant, there's a few people beavering away at Kings Quest games

...well, if anyone considered having a pop at making a 3d dizzy game let me know, i want in on that man. Would be so cool.

....Thinking about it, it could still have the 2d level design but just 3d props, abit like "the new super mario brothers" or "sonic generations" (retro sonic levels).

I would give a long term support to something like that for the artside of things for sure.

Does anyone else feel the same way as me to have a rebirth of Dizzy?
