Now that is one great video, I've never seen the Amiga version, love the Dizzy trampoline animation.

I've only played the short C64 version so I'm really surprised to learn it now how different the "normal" version is. But not in the good way. Just how many times you gotta use that freakin' trampette? They ruined the game with the constant jumping for rocks. The whale jumping looks like a pain too. But at least Dizzy drilling himself out is better than his exit in the C64 version.

Hah, what happened to you at the end? Was it your fault, or did you hit a game bug? I noticed that the ST/Amiga versions have different bugs depending on whether you're playing the stand-alone/CD version or the Excellent Adventures compilation.

well i had rescued all the yolkfolk and so with the umbrella and kite i made my way to get the drill bit i needed for the weird machine but i made the mistake of getting to the area near the weird machine first and not being able to get down again while holding the two items, so i dropped one of them to get down but then found i couldn't get high enough on the wind to reach the clouds i needed to go after the drill bit - which was annoying

then again i did give up quite quickly so perhaps it was possible but i do believe i just messed up (or found a small bug), actually on a previous attempt of playing i went in the pumping station without swimming gear or the hammer and found it impossible to get dizzy to make a jump needed to escape, well i did it once by chance but never again

anyway enough ranting from me, i will complete soon i'm sure (hopefully next try)

i am playing the CD32 version of the game as i have the problem most tend to have using WinUAE (well i use the mac version E-UAE via Hi-Toro) where the game crashes when you pick up the scuba mask

Ah, that old problem of falling down without carrying the thing you need to get back up, like dropping the rope on a platform you can only reach by swinging from the rope in Fantastic Dizzy. You do want to watch out for those situations... I found a way to do a trick jump that allows Dizzy to double-jump up the clouds without the kite, and it also makes it much easier to get out of the pumping station without swimming, but that also means you can just skip the whole quest and go straight to the drill bit.

The scuba mask crashing is interesting, because I've noticed that the "Excuse me while I change" message can't be skipped with a button press, but it lasts different amounts of time depending on what system you play the game on. I suspect what it really means is that the game is loading a whole new set of sprite graphics for Dizzy during that time. So an emulated copy might have a problem with missing data there or jumping to the wrong place when it's requesting the scuba stuff.

i think the "scuba bug" is a well-known one, i have managed to find a few versions of spellbound and each one crashes at that point, even the one thats part of a the excellent adventures collection and from the collection you can buy off e-bay

i'm thankful the CD32 version works though so when i have found the patience to carry rocks back and forth i can attempt to complete it once more

Hmm, maybe it's just the Macintosh version of UAE that has the problem then, because I never experienced that.

perhaps it may be the mac version (or indeed E-UAE or older Win-UAE versions perhaps?) that cause the crash, thankfully i have actually just finished the game via the CD32 so can relax after completing it at long last
