The "DizzyAGE Easter Competition 2007" is on!

The competiton rules and prizes can be found on the official DizzyAGE website:
http://www.simion.co.uk/dizzyage/competition.html

Hurry up and be there with an entry, on May 1st !
Or maybe you have something to offer to the winners?
Just let me know if you're on to something...

Jamie Douglas already announced his entry, "Diamond Mine Dizzy".
He is still working on it and everything seems to look very nice.
Here is a glance at the plot:

"The King has hired Dizzy and the Yolkfolk to mine Diamonds for him in his private mine. One day, The King is away, so Dizzy decides to go for a walk. As usual, he misses all the action, as Trolls loyal to the Evil Wizard Zaks enter the mines, causing the Yolkfolk to flee as the Trolls imprison Daisy, then take all the diamonds and scatter them throughout the land, causing chaos as they leave. Needless to say the King is not amused when he returns. He blames Dizzy for the whole thing, and orders him to find all the diamonds and restore order to the land."

Thank you for the mention Alex, i'm just gonna add that i should have a beta version done by the end of february, which will leave me 2 months to iron any bugs out and add other little bits and details that I may think of.

in the meantime, i'll post a couple of screenshots i took a few weeks ago. bear in mind these are quite out of date now, especially as i made a completely new title and border the other day when i should have been coding the game! :v2_dizzy_tongue:

thank you both! there won't be any hugely complicated bits of coding in my game, simply because i only started using DizzyAGE at the end of December, and i'm sure i've not yet learned how to use it to it's fullest.

Having said that, i do have a fairly good grasp of the basics now, enough to do a reasonably decent game anyway (i hope!) :D

Hello,

The DizzyAGE Easter Competition 2007 is about to end!
As you probably saw, there is a third entry announced and nearly finished.
"Excalibur Dizzy" by Andy Mason. Let's hope it will be ready in time.
Also there is a second sponsor with a 10EUR prize, thanks Cristian!
Soon, you will all be invited to vote the entries, on the DizzyAGE website.

It would be nice people to motivate their votes in this thread, and to give advices to the participants,
to tell them what they liked or not about their games and to help them make even better games in the future.

It's hard to choose 1 and I enjoyed playing all 3 of them :say_yes:

Jamie's game was nice and big, but too many Diamonds are sneakly hidden and bit much on the joke items ;) Plus I haven't finished this one yet mainly because I haven't found all the Diamonds yet :p

Peter's game is very accuratley done :) and Prince of the Yolkfolk being one of the nice and simple Dizzy games I've played, I finished it no probs ;)

and Andy's game I'd say is well done according to the way are 16-bit graphics are placed :) and I'm still currently trying to find a use for the Lubricant and Excalibur :p

Overall there was a lot to check out on Diamond Mine (along with the sneaky Diamond hiding places :p) so I'd go for that me thinks.

thanks adz! :D

i was hoping to have Dreamworld Dizzy finished in time to enter it too (if the rules allowed more than one entry per person) but unfortunately, my home internet isn't up yet, so i couldn't enter it.

Never mind, i've used the extra time to add more stuff to it, and make it even better. Personally, i think it blows Diamond Mine Dizzy out of the water, even if i do say so myself. :)

and adz, you'll be pleased to know that there are a lot less 'red herring' items in DW, and the coin items i think are easier to find than in DMD. certainly there's no amazingly difficult ones.

As I mentioned in the DizzyAGE News thread,
the official DizzyAGE website has moved to a new location.
It is now part of "The Dizzy Community" and it is hosted on Yolkfolk.com servers.

So, the voting continue on: http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage

And let's see more impressions about the entries, from the recent voters.

For me the best, and most infuriating, was diamond mine dizzy due to the size of the game and number of tasks. Admittedly the diamonds were a bit tricky to find and a couple of times you got stuck and started pulling your hair out, but the fact that I kept plugging away to find the diamonds and uses of the items is testament to the standard of the game. However, Without help I think my patience would finally have gone. Anyone who can complete the game without any pointers deserves a medal (in fact all of the medals from the medal room in Dreamworld dizzy - looks good, can't wait).

The other two games were good too. If anything, I found excalibur was a bit too easy once I'd got past the troll - it would have been nice to have a few more tasks to complete. Nonetheless, it was a good game.

Prince of the Yolkfolk was true to the original and again had a high playablility.

So overall, Diamond mine gets my highest vote

Thank you to everyone who played and voted for my game 'Excalibur Dizzy'. Thank you also to Peter and Jamie for such quality entries that meant voting went right down to the wire. I had a feeling it was going to be a close one. Thanks also goes to the organisers and prize donators.

I am looking forward to entering again next year.

At least Magicland is yours too... lucky I didn't picked up someone else's game :)
