View Full Version : Dizzy's Dream Home v1.2 [DOWNLOADABLE]
It's finished, sort of as there a couple of things I would like to add at some point soon.
Dizzy's great uncle has passed away and has left Dizzy his home and fortune. His house is actually a mansion and would make a dream home for Dizzy and Daisy. However to get his inheritance, Dizzy must solve puzzles and complete tasks to get pieces of the will. Only then will Dizzy be rewarded.
However, a time limit has been set for you to complete the will. You have until 5pm with your mission starting at 7am. That should be plenty of time. Also watch your energy. As well as the usual nasties to decrease your energy it will also decrease over time. Food is available but limited. To make sure you use food wisely you can carry it in your inventory and eat it when needed.
Objects like food and items of clothing can be used anywhere. Selecting one of these items will give you the option of using the object or dropping it.
Caution : watch where you drop the phonecard. If you can't get back to it then you've got problems.

Aplogies for the out of date screenshots. I will upload some fresh ones shortly.

nice game! altho i have noticed that everytime you enter 'front garden', your life decreases, even if you just go out quickly then back in.
EDIT:: happens with 'great hall' too. only entering from the right tho...
It's suppose to decrease over time to simulate Dizzy getting hungry. It's mentioned in the 1st post.
I love this speccy stylised look! and a great mod to the inventory:v2_dizzy_clapping:
is there a reason you loose a bit of health when you enter the "front door" room?:v2_dizzy_confused2:
(forget this! just noticed previous post)
yeah i like the inventory, i was going to wait and nick the code from it for The Lord of Darkness, but i coded the Custom Inventory for that this morning. :dizzy_cool:
i do like the option to look at or use items tho.
what's up with that alarm system tho? gassing intruders?! :O
You'd find the code very messy I'm afraid. Working out how all the inbuilt scripts work can be confusing so sometimes I'll write code to force something to work rather than doing it the way I was supposed to.
haha no worries, i've done it now anyway. completely ripped the inventory coding apart this morning, it's taken me half the damn day! there is no dialog boxes for the inventory in TLOD now, it's all contained in the HUD. :v2_dizzy_happy: Mish has seen a screenshot of it.
i'll have more of a play with Dream Home tomorrow probably, as i may have more time then. then again, i may not!
Just had a go with the game, really impressive work Andy!
I managed to get 20% of the will so far.
Your game is now on Yolkfolk.com. Details and Screenshot gallery updated :)

nice work :)
I really like the inventory.. it would make a cool option for users of DizzyAge to pick and choose which inventory to use
Yeah. It's a shame I re-wrote the default inventory system to make this one. If I had created it alongside the old one then it would have been easy for DizzyAGE users to switch between inventory types.
When I convert to 2.2 I might do that. Then it would be easy for people to use this inventory system in their games.

Two little observations about the game:
1. You have an extra file in the tiles folder and it's mentioned in the log,
as an warning, no matter if you disable it. It's some tmp.tga or temp.tga
Check it out and remove it in the next version
2. Write more details in the readme.txt file. Some players might need it.
Check the default one. Also add your name and contact info there, too.
The game looks wonderfull. Clean and nice graphics. I hope to play it soon :)

Dizzy' s Dream Home is definitely one of the best fan made games
and one of the things I like best is that it enables me to enjoy the music
of Treasure Island Dizzy with the graphics and storyline of Megabux.
Ah nostalgia !
Keep up the good work, Macon :v2_dizzy_happy:
I have released version 1.1.
You don't need to download this if you are happy with version 1.0. All it does is make the security puzzle easier and makes the quiet room interaction more obvious. Also the read-me has been improved.
It is available from the same link (http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/dz023.html)

I'm not really sure about what v1.1 means.
I see your message above was posted yesterday, but I haven't received such a version to post on DizzyAGE. The DizzyAGE version looks the same as the one on Yolkfolk and has the same old readme file.
Can you check it out?
[EDIT]
Also you should write personal info in the dizzy.inf file.
You can see it at the about dialog F1 in game and in the setup.exe
Now it says "Default Template" as the name of the game.
I couldn't understand why you couldn't get v1.1 but I've worked it out. Last year the link for my game from the DizzyAGE website was directed to my own webspace and if I updated the game I just used used the same file name so no links needed changing. I've just noticed that this is different as now the games are hosted by yolkfolk.com (when did this happen as last time I checked my Excalibur Dizzy link was working it downloaded from my web space?).
Now I know that whenever I update you need a link. So here it is (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dtgames/files/dizzy_dream_home.zip)

Now your new v1.1 is on the DizzyAGE website :)
Version 1.2 is now available.
I actually updated this a while back but have only just got round to proper testing to make sure I hadn't broken anything.
Whats new in v1.2
==============
1) When you collect a piece of the will you now get a visual representation of all the pieces you have collected so far.
2) New inventory object - a map. If you are carrying the map you can look at it to check your progress through the game.
You can download it from the following links in the first post

"Just say what you see."
(Am I the only one being reminded of "Catchphrase" when I look at that will?)
Looks awesome, Macon. I'll have to download this now.
"Just say what you see."

lol, I see why you say that
v1.2 is now on Yolkfolk :)
excellent!
i'm rather interested in how you did the 'map' part...
i think i know, but i'll download it and have a little peek at the code anyway! :p
btw did you upgrade it to DizzyAGE v2.2?
Oops! No it has not been updated to v2.2. I totally forgot. I will get round to it at a later date, also update 'Excalibur Dizzy' as well.
As for the map you should have no problem working it out. It is actually quite simple.
i'm just guessing here, but i would imagine you've used a 'room' for showing the map, then just changed the colours of little blocks when you need to.
pretty simple.
that reminds me, i need to upgrade WWD to v2.2..... *goes off to do it*
nice,
i never did compete this i got really stuck, i;ll gave to give it another shot its really weird.

Well done Macon.
I just played this again and still say this is one of my favourite Dizzy fan games.
For me the games just the right size and the logic and difficulty of the puzzles are just right too.
I like the oversized items and lawn ornaments too and all the other bits i mentioned in other posts way back to the easter comp.
Im still puzzled by the title graphics tho - how does a ship dock fit in with this game??
I notice at the end it hints at a sequel - id love to see another, any news of how its progressing?
Anyhow Im lovin this game & reccomend it to all retro gamers!!!
Dock Tower is just the name of the 'company' I release my games under. I live in the fishing port of Grimsby and the Dock Tower is a famous landmark there.

I haven't forgotten about a sequel, it is something I hope to work on after the Easter compo.
will you be entering the 2009 easter comp? :p

Dream Home 1.2 is on DizzyAGE
http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/games.html
I think the zip file is smaller than the old version 1.0MB vs 1.17MB. Is it OK?
Also consider to update your games to the latest DizzyAGE (v2.21) When you have more games it will be harder to find the time for them.
It is smaller because this time I remembered to remove unused tiles.
Really liked this game.
A few nice features with the map and being able to carry around food - instead of having to go hunting for it when needed, especially liked the cheese.
I liked the telephone system too, what a time saver.

I got an error...
http://www.dizzy.pl/non-cgi/grafy/errorddh.png
It was after I found sick budgie and go right on next stage...
When I added the new features I thought I had tested everything but I forgot about time up event. I'll get it fixed soon, as I have to update it to the latest version of DizzyAge anyway.

OK, I cheated time and succesfully finished game. This is good game. But I think that "time 600 rooms" is too hard. You should give more time (3x more suggested by me) and min. 1 more cheess or unlimited use sleep room with coffee (I recomended this...). I not found any info in game that I have limited time - this must be exactly cleared to player. Because player have fun beating hard game but not have fun if game beat him. An item for looking [% progress] in game should be added too (I can see progres only if it progressed but not any time...)
From the readme included with the game. - "However, a time limit has been set for you to complete the will. You have until 5pm with your mission starting at 7am.".
Also you can find out how much time has gone by picking up the clock and looking at it.
About the length of the time limit. Whilst testing I could finish the game with more than half the time still remaining. But I am at an advantage as I wrote the game and know it inside out. This is why I forgot to test it in the latest version. What is happening is that I forgot to put an invisible entry on the map for the 'time up' room.
If anyone else thinks the time or food is restricting I'll increase it in later versions.
Anyhow, thanks for playing.
I loved playing this game and really liked the features as mentioned in an earlier post.
Personally I didn't find either the food or the time limit restrictive. Being able to save meant you could 'save time' by doing your investigations first and then reloading to an earlier point when you knew what to do. And I only used some of the cheese as added nourishment. I might have used more but being forced to use the vitamins and master bedroom items in order to complete the will meant there was no need to.
Would really like to see another game like this, it was fun to play.
