Great Game Jamie:v2_dizzy_clapping:
I love what you do with the golf club:laugh:
At the moment the goat keeps butting me, and I nearly reach a certain object, but Dizzy misses, falls down and loses a life:v2_dizzy_confused2:
Fun game!

thank you!
i wasn't going to give hints, but it seems a few people are stuck at a particular point. so i'm giving this hint: the golf club has 2 uses.
i think most people have found the secondary use (points only), but i think only slider has found the main use. you'll all kick yourselves when you realise what it is! :p
downloaded the new version and i got across on the log...
seems i can't do anything now until i get rid of those bees... but i don't appear to have an item for it so theres probably another puzzle..
Theres a vine i can't pick up yet, that bot of lightning and i did find the trapdoor but its 'stuck' ummm think I'll have to see if i can chop anything with this Axe.

Hmmm, I think I am at the point where I need to find the other use for the Golf Club....
Is it another obvious one, like 'going underground' in Rail Road Dizzy?!?

A very cryptic clue on how to get rid of the bees:
If A is young, then Bee is ...:v2_dizzy_confused2:
Take it from there!
Claire:v2_dizzy_happy:
the golf club puzzle is one of those that you'll probably spend ages thinking what to do with it, but then when you do it, you'll wonder why on earth you didn't think of it before, as it will become completely obvious! :p
oh and Claires Kempston Joystick, i know what to do, and even i don't get that cryptic clue! mind you, i'm rubbish at crosswords...
ooo hang on, i think i may have worked it out. very tenuous tho! :)

As per usual, after a couple of days' good going I've come to a complete standstill :dizzy_mad:... just like the good old days lol :v2_dizzy_clapping:
I've found no use for the Branch, the Axe, the Hammer or the Bag. I've used the oil but with absolutely no idea as to what good that was meant to do...
Same goes for the golf club - I found the rather sickly 'joke' use straight away, but as for the 'proper' use goodness only knows. I'm guessing that the key to it has something to do with the specific calibre of the club :dizzy_confused:
Got 20 stars so far but only just over 11,000 points - and from that score I figure out that there's a heck of a lot more left to do... :v2_dizzy_confused2: Mapwise, I'm thinking perhaps you can get past the Blockage, the Cave-In and the Vampire, and thanks to the goat being a "pain in the butt" in earlier games I know that somehow you can get above the altar...
first thing i tried was to bash the bees with the news paper and all dizzy did was drop it and got stung... lol I'll have to try that again.

Meph - you have to be in the right place to succeed. SPOILERyou have to go down the steps to use the paper
Clientfan - I am also stuck on the golf club - i thought i was being cunning thinking of golfing terms where I could use it - missing LINKS, the BIRDIE / EAGLE, and also Iron being an electrical conductor all to no avail :dizzy_confused:
Jamie seems to have got loads of us scratching our heads again, looking for the obvious silly link - like what to do with the Hamlet book :D
Just where does he get all his ideas from ?
Glad he does though!!:v2_dizzy_clapping:
frogandhat - you were being cunning with the club, but i think you need to follow the same sort of advice you gave to Meph... ;)

I imagine you have to be pretty much pixel perfect, as I've tried every place I can find in all the areas that frogandhat mentions, and still no joy! :hitwall:
nahh you don't have to be. all the times i've tried it it's worked every time. and i've not even tried to be accurate! :p
i was getting somewhere today.. bashed the bees, kicked to goat, poked grand dizzys eye out.. and seem to have come to a dead end..
its just frustrating knowing i have to do all that again tomorrow to continued searching for the next puzzle.
***
i know not having a save makes its harder but its just kills the fun having to re do everything.. let alone finding the time to do it in one go.. maybe a better solution would be having the save but ONE life (with energy) you would have to be really carful its still challenging.. but wouldn't have to keep starting from scratch every day??? just an idea. it works for long and short games too.
hmmm i dunno. i mean, it's only taken slider 38mins to complete the game! so to get part way shouldn't take all that long.
besides, as i said, you may think of things while you're doing that. :p
my next game will have save 'points', that you can only save the game when you reach. mind you, it's MUCH better suited to that sort of thing than MSD... (ooo hint hint)

I posted something similar a few days back the repetition when you get stuck of having to start from scatch again & redo, maybe for smaller games (although I note this is described as large still) of having limited saves, ie you have 3 saves like lives, just an idea.
I got zapped trying to find the main use of the golf club by the lightening, so stuck on that with no idea at present, got the bucket of bone oil, got rid of the thorn, dunno how to get past the now stationery goat, at a loss how to get the standing stone - can get to pick it up but cant get back out, no idea what to do with the rock that crumbles unless it similar to spellbound later in the game.
got rid of the thorn, dunno how to get past the now stationery goat,
s'cuse me? the goat shouldn't still be there if you used the thorn. it runs away. or did you exit the room then re-enter as it was doing so?
at a loss how to get the standing stone - can get to pick it up but cant get back out,
you simply put it down on the larger stone, it rises you up, and you jump out.
it isn't used for anything else.... :p

Oh blimey shouldnt it, ive spent ages & ages thinking I needed to use a 2nd item :v2_dizzy_frown:, even tried swinging the golf club on its hind to shift it out the way lol, it was just stood stationery facing the other way.
I may have gone of screen perhaps yes as you lose a life if it hits you so I did back up whilst testing the said item. Would this be a bug, suppose would be..mmm..:v2_dizzy_confused2:

hmm yeah possibly. it resets it if you go off screen. so if youd used the item and it was running away, then you went off screen, it would re-set it. there's possibly a fix for that, but without looking i'm not sure how easy it would be. the best thing to do is to drop the item near to the center of the screen then move a small distance away from it.

Should I beable to use the golf club at the point I am and would that be what I need to solve next to progress ???
LDoY - yes. you're able to use the golf club on the main puzzle as soon as you get it (ooo hint hint) :)
Annie, if you've got past the bees then i think there are a few puzzles open to you, one of which isn't at all obvious until you do it!

Think im a bit below par on this golf club puzzle lol, tried all the safe areas I can see which may need actioning to progress, only other main puzzles that come to mind which have danger cos I keep losing lives are the lightening bolt which seems you need to do to get a star only which is prob later in the game & the eagle (edited to correct) on the exposed ledge.
Just cant see any other main puzzle, dunno if ive not done something prior that I need to do beforehand to let me use it :v2_dizzy_confused3:

But it will be on the site as soon has pteal has got the updated games section ready :)
did some experimenting with this golf club took me 7/8 minutes to get to that point and 3 minute to lose all 3 lives.. lol can't be bothered to try again today.. I'll have another 3 minutes tomorrow. :O
well done slider! it's nice to know it is possible to get the maximum score! (i never tried...! ;) )
i actually never tried to time myself completing it, but i think Slider's time will be around about the quickest it can be done.
Meph, try using it when it's very close to you. but don't run away first! stay where you trigger it coming after you...
personally every time i've tried it i get it right, and that's not really trying.

i've just checked the code and it simply can't.

Strange :dizzy_cool:
in theory, i know what has happened here. the eagle picks you up, *but the dizzy hanging on doesn't move*, then the eagle carries you off (not carrying anything) and when it 'dropped' you, you gained control again and got 'another' dizzy.
in practice, that should never happen. it should *always* carry the hanging-on dizzy off. the code simply doesn't allow it to stay there....
hmmmmm there is one small possibility, however you'd have had to have been *very* precise with the timing. *goes to check*

Well I have had enough for one day am going to bed gotta be up 05.30 for work
Good luck Jamie with trying to solve my double Dizzy :v2_dizzy_happy:
Sounds reasonable :D
yeah, except i still can't replicate it. what i think you've done is managed to use the golf club *just after* (and i mean literally milli-seconds after) it picked you up.
when it picks you up, it sets the 'dizzy' tile to the hanging on one (and shows it). i think that as you used the club *just after* it picked you up, it then set the dizzy tile it moves to the 'hanging-on with club' one, and moved that one (still invisible, as it 'showed' the other one first), instead of the first one, which was left in mid air.
i'm only guessing here, and i'm not entirely sure that is what has happened, as it should move the player with the eagle anyway, even if it doesn't show you. however i do think it must just be a *split second* that it can happen in, and you've just hit lucky doing it. if anyone else manages to do it too, please let me know what you did, how, and in what order etc, and i'll look into it further.
for the moment tho, i'm treating it as a 'one-off', and hoping that no-one will be able to trigger it again! :P

May not get chance to retry until weekend now or whenever but the blockage and vampire left as puzzles, not sure what else, sorted the moat (thought that was really good), the princess, the lightening & pogie, dunno what to do with feather. I find those under water parts with the limited time difficult. Is the sea monster a puzzle or just a danger to negotiate ? Wonder if I can tickle it with the feather hee hee...
I'm at this point now too. Got Hammer, Egg-Shaped Rock, Axe, Feather & other stuff that has already been used at least once. Not sure if this item is needed to complete, but beware you don't drop the Egg-Shaped Rock as it smashes!
The Sea Monster is a real ball-acher so you must either tickle it or pound its head with the hammer?!?! One extreme to the other :D
Screw the last part - just had a brainwave LDoY...drop the Egg-Shaped Rock into the monster's hole and it might chew that while you swim for the star thinking it's a real egg! Worth a try!

Took twice as long as Slider but I wasn't rushing by any means. Figured out the last few puzzles and I'm home free. LDoY, just PM if you need anymore help so I don't start giving things away on here.
Still found no 'beneficial' use for the feather but I did manage to use it and abuse it!
How many posts before I can add attachments?
Lastly I'd just like to say congrats to Jamie for a cracking (no pun intended) experience. Some really great thought gone into it and I look forward to more in the future. I have some great ideas myself which I would love to recreate to this standard but sadly, I'm a DizzyAGE novice:v2_dizzy_frown:

Nice one. What was your final time/score? Also, did you find the correct use for the feather?
how come Dizzy doesn't swim up very well?
i keep drowning because he wont go back up.. and you can't drop the heavy rock underwater to float him?? its really annoying.

dizzy has to be stood on something to drop the rocks, ledge or bottom.

I am trying to get the tweezers from the moat but Dizzy won't swim down that far? I am holding two heavy rocks and the snorkle?
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? :v2_dizzy_confused2:

it doesn't matter how many rocks you have. the issue is that you have to swim to one side. he doesn't swim straight up.
oh and Miller, it depends where the level of the water is. if it's the lower level, try downloading the latest version. if there's still a problem, let me know. there was a similar problem with an earlier version. however i think you've probably still got the water level at the high point.

ian, this game is my 6th, after a year of using DizzyAGE. however you should be able to create something with the complexity of Diamond Mine Dizzy relatively easily.
did i mention DMD will be getting a large update and re-release soon, to update it to DizzyAGE v2.1? :)

I am stuck! I've turned the moat purple and have loads of items :v2_dizzy_eek: but I don't know how to get the water level down or through the trap door. :hitwall:

I know but it's finding the time to learn the code properly and then implementing it. Hopefully one day. Cheers for the encouragement though!
I haven't played DMD yet - is it worth me waiting for the re-release?
ermmm well the rerelease will have 2 versions, the 'classic' version and the updated version. you'll be able to switch between them, altho not mid-game.
there will not be any new puzzles, the only(!) differences will be the music, sound FX, and a general sprucing up of the graphics.
the only difference between the 'classic' mode in v2 and the version currently available will be that the v2 'classic' mode will have the newer lifebar sound FX, rather than the one currently in DMD.
so it's up to you whether you want to wait or not. :) altho i will need to wait for alex to release v2.2 of DizzyAGE, as there is a bug preventing me from swapping maps in v2.1

When ive used the large egg item I cant now get across the reservoir, even though I not carrying any rocks I keep sinking down in the water...is this suppose to happen ? The log I stepped off away from the edge and is impossible to jump onto, but wouldnt matter normally when you was snorkling without carrying any rocks but now I just sinking when not carrying any ?
ooo i think there might be a bug there... i'll have to go and have a look at the code. if i'm right, you won't sink down all the way with no rocks, just about halfway. correct?
you can still get across, swim up using the jump button.
Lord Dizzy of Yolkfolk

I sink about half way with no rocks yes but I cant get across the reservoir now as you cant jump up on the left hand side ? You didnt sink at all unless you were carrying rocks. Ive lost all my lives now just trying. It respanwed me at that point and couldnt get across for any air. I not sure if could swim up to log, I couldnt seem to get there.

you don't have to drop rocks in the water to get up, you can swim from side to side by using the jump button. (dizzy doesn't swim straight up)
anyway, v1.15 (on yolkfolk.com now) should fix the issue, it was indeed what i thought it would be. basically when you solved the monster puzzle, the game didn't realise you were carrying one less rock, so it kept it's internal 'rock count' at 1 rock, even when you had no rocks...

Loving this game so far, and the no save with 3 lifes reminds me of TUCA =)
Anyhow I've broswed through this forum and can't find what I'm looking for.
I've gotten past the bees got the club and used it twice.
Items I have yet to use are the raincoat, hamlet book, reinforced bag and the axe.
Also have the snorkel, not sure if it's used for anything else just yet...
Can't pick up the twig as I end up losing energy due to the thorn.
I've noticed the pickaxe but can't seem to figure out how to get on that ledge...
Thanks =)
Figured out the use of the book and have the item you get using this book... no idea what to do with this item though =\
ahh where to start?
first things first, you've reminded me to release the walkthrough for RRD this weekend, and also for MSD when version 1.2 gets released (hopefully this weekend too!)
now, to your problems. you need to use something on the twig, and a similar thing in Magicland dizzy will help you get onto the ledge. hint: start near grand dizzy.
hope that helps! oh and check out v1.2 when it's released, there'll be a major new option.... ;)

Lol I don't see how that reminded you to do the walkthrough but OK lol.
I figured something would have to be used on the twig, I'm pretty sure I don't have this item yet, get the feeling it MAY be under the place where I use the pickaxe, but time will tell =)
Well I better get to it and get that pick, just gotta figure out which ledge I'll be jumping off to get there now lol.
Thanks!

ermmmm a 'spoiler' is where someone tells you a hint that may spoil someone elses enjoyment of the game.
in this case, she meant that if you highlight the invisible text after 'Spoiler -', you'll see a hint as to how to get further.
I told you me stupid one:)
Thanx a lot!

Got unused: Wheel, Axe, Bones, Rinforced Bag, Crowbar (doubt it's for a trapdoor).
Used but still remain: Hamlet Book, Pickaxe
Have to solve: Twins puzzle, Bees puzzle.
Help!
Ок - my grandy got a wheel - so me heading forward!:)
Heh lots of news but me stuck over again...
Notice: I'm not really good in English so maybe that is an additional problem:(
Got unused:
Reinforced Bag (I just can't get how a bag can be reinforced? What does it mean?)
Large Hammer
Sherlock Holmes' Bones
Spleeping Poshion
Crowbar
Branch (TF said earlier that it is needed to branch a bit - what does it mean?)
Lumberjacks Axe
Used and remained:
Snorkel
Stuttering Hamlet Book
Sharp Knife
Golf Club
Rolled Up Newspaper
Pickaxe

Vampire
Trapdoor

Hey, am a little bit stuck on this.
Got rid of bees & goat have hammer.
helped out the twins, got sleeping potion & reinforced bag.
Have snorkel & turned the moat purple.
Can't get past vampire, and can't past the blockage where you get the hammer from =\
Help please!
again .. nice game, jamie ..
the eagle puzzle took me long enough to solve. almost a week! after that, they should be easier. but in fact, i got stuck in the middle of the game.
don't know why, even with aqualung, i still cannot breathe underwater for a long time!
please check it!
big thx .. :)
as far as i remember, it's meant to be like that. it's a snorkel, not an aqualung ;)
adds a little bit of urgency to the game! :v2_dizzy_tongue2:
oh, i see .. well, it's just my bad habit. always try to get everything perfect ..
honestly, to get perfect score is so hard. especially without save game. i never got perfect score until now .. but, it's a challenge. :D
too bad, there's no file to record my achievement. ie in highscore list. :(
i really think that the eagle puzzle is an amazing thought. i've used the club before on 'something'. then i got stuck, don't know how to get the coat. didn't try to use the club for the second time. suddenly, a flashlight came in my mind, almost a week later. 'eagle' means 'two under par' in golf. after that .. is all easy .. except the perfect score ..
great game, jamie .. can't wait to 'Another Headache Dizzy' ups .. sorry .. adventure hero, i mean .. :D

Well, my first proper attempt at this game was going well, until I had a little accident in the Vampire's Lair... I managed to bump my head twice in a row going over the little pond, and drowned! After being thrown in the reservoir by the Dizzy Eagle, it was enough to end thus:
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg121/LordMataeus/Pudding%20Ranks/Dizzy/MSD.jpg
I thought I'd come to this one next after clocking Winter World Dizzy, building my way up to the biggies as it were, and I have to say I'm thoroughly enjoying it, all the more for reading the Author Notes on Dizzy Stories and how the game came to be. I like the way you can switch maps too, but it's 8-bit all the way for me :P I also enjoy the fact that most puzzles don't lead you by the hand, for example using the Tiger Mask. You have to actually work it out, instead of getting a pop-up that basically tells you what to do. That's really fun. So is the absence of a save game, another fact I enjoyed in Winter World too. Right, let's try and 'crack' this thing!

wow, someone who actually likes the fact that I haven't put the save feature into some of my games!
lol i hate that.
I never play them in one go usually 10 minutes here and there.
not being able to save prevent me from really playing it uless i make sure i have plenty of time and not wanting to do other stuff, i tend to play them while doing other things or in between doing other things.

Don't get me wrong, on a game such as Rail Road Dizzy I think to have a save game is very important. But on the smaller games, e.g. ones comparable with the official titles, I don't think it's necessary. Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy just about gets away with it because there are so many opportunities to pick up extra lives. A cool feature that I'd like to see implemented is a solo save point, for example you can only save at Dizzy's Treehouse Hut. This would mean no cheap regaining lives after trying something silly, yet you'd still be able to continue the game at a later date. to use a completely different example, Dead Rising on the Xbox 360 - Loads of people complained about the save system there (you had to make your way to a bathroom in the mall to save) but it worked perfectly. If you could have saved anywhere, the zombie situation wouldn't have felt threatening and that's just all wrong :(
still a pain the butt when you only play for 10 minutes a go.
Dizzy isn't really about lives its about puzzles, so saves don't really make alot of odds wont help you solve puzzles.
Mataeus
01-11-09, 04:38 PM
Well, Dizzy for me is about the whole package... The puzzles, yes, but also the platforming, enemy dodging, and the action sequences like dodging the Armourog (sp?) or timing your run past the Eagle, or spiders etc.
Bit of a blast from the past, I know, but I've recently come back to the game after quite a long spell away, and have hit a metaphorical brick wall. I've got (unused) an axe, hammer, burning branch, reinforced bag, sleeping potion, crowbar and Sherlock Holmes's bones, and haven't got a clue where to go from here. I've managed to get 20 stars, but not the one where you get hit by lightning or the one in the pool in front of the vampire (can't seem to jump out again afterwards).
Any help would be really appreciated. :v2_dizzy_confused2:

If you havent used the bones on the altar yet then you need to do that, then you will get some bone oil to empty on the moat which can be lit with what you have.

Good stuff, theres no save game feature with this game, hope your not having to restart though.
I've had to restart a couple of times. The main problem is that I keep losing lives because half the time the game won't let me put down the rocks when I'm in water (the ledge where the tweezers are being the main culprit). :dizzy_mad:
quiggie
05-01-10, 08:03 PM
yes you can drop rocks in the water - maybe your carrying to much in your inventory - you do have to be on solid ground to do it though - like tweezer ledges
That seems to be the problem; when I land on the ledges I end up bobbing up and down a couple of pixels above the ledge, rather than actually standing on it. It doesn't always happen, but completely messes the game up when it does.
Dizzy Stories now has everything you'll need to complete Magic Star Dizzy: http://dizzystories.110mb.com/gamedetail.php?game=6
