View Full Version : Is this the worst Dizzy game ever made?

Of course it is - what a silly question.
Like someone's already posted, it's just the game with his face tacked onto it. A bit like Mario Golf. Or Mario Tennis. Or Super Marios Bros 2.... (hehe)

What does everyone think?

Well I agree with the fact it was just a game with Dizzy's face on it, although I was quite addicted to the Spectrum version.

I have a magazine review of the game from 1993 which states: "Dizzy? Nah! He's no more a part of this than I am the bass guitarist for Fuzzbox".
It's not as if there was a great deal of gameplay either; it was little more than a test of how quick your reactions were.
Although, having said that, it was nicely presented, and the music was fairly catchy.

I liked the game for what it was...
Didnt like it too much for the loosly based Dizzy material. But as a stand alone game with those falling blocks, twas ok.
Could have been called anything Factory Panic (swear thats already a game), taken Dizzy out completly and sold a few.

Agreed, it would have been better as a standalone game!

And yes it was a unoriginal puzzle game with dizzy sprites all over it :v2_dizzy_confused2:

You could really argue that for any of the Dizzy arcade games I would think. .:v2_dizzy_confused2: I would say Fast Food was more of a rip then Panic Dizzy, Dizzy Down the Rapids was probably the most original of the arcade games, and even then, I'm almost certain it was copied from another game.. can't remember exactly what it was called.. Floom? :dizzy_confused:

Panic Dizzy is an alright game though. I found it kind of boring at first, but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad, definately more fun on a 16bit platform though.

I've got a feeling that the game that Dizzy Down the Rapids was based on was called Toobin.

Indeed it was Andy C.
Trouble is back then (and indeed still today) there is a lack of 'original' ideas for games and the moment one of these rarities comes along.. its staurised by the rest of the gaming industry and is no longer unique.
Tis a shame. Perhaps someone should try and copyright a genre of game rather than a brand.

its okay, but its is the worse dizzy arcade game.. but all dizzy arcade games just have his face stamped on.. but they are fun to play, and i guess they did to sell more and to stand out from over simile games..

But theres another reasons.. they are Puzzle games of sorts which is the whole point to the regaler dizzy games.. so i don't have a problem with them..

"Just thinking about 'Dizzy Panic' makes me shudder".

That's a quote from the egg himself in the fan game 'Dizzy's Normal Day'.

It looks like he would agree with his fans in his assessment of the game! :D

Could still have sold a few, however if Dizzy wasn't on the front cover then my mum would never have bought it for me when I was younger, so releasing it with the Dizzy brand certainly did it's job in that respect.

Personally I always preferred the adventure games to the arcade games anyway but I never complained as it meant I got a free "Dizzy game" from her. :D

Yep, I totally agree it's the worst Dizzy gane. I remember at the time being quite offended that they made a second rate Tetris rip-off and used Dizzy's good name to sell it.

I remember Toobin and always thought Rapids was a blatant rip-off of that also.

Yeah, but at least DtR was fun! As was Toobin' actually.... Hmmm....

Dizzy down the rapids was much worse than this. on the Amstrad anyway.

Certainly a weak title featuring Dizzy... I had it on the Commodore 64 and several things annoyed me about it. First of all, it didn't matter how far you got through the levels - the game had no ending (or at least if it had, I never saw one). And the reason I never saw one was this... in later levels (on the C64 version anyway) the items never came out when you needed them. Which meant you couldnt get them to fit into the slots properly. Which meant the 4 tubes from which the toy shapes came from continued to spiral downwards at a rapid pace and subsequently ended your game. In later levels it was nearly impossible to get several toy shapes through the slots at the bottom of the screen simultaneously and therefore raise the tubes a bit and give yourself some breathing space - and they came so think and fast that you didn't have time to wait around for them to drop individually. And because multiple toy shapes dropping through successfully was practically impossible, it also meant that your game was guaranteed to end once you got through a certain number of levels regardless.

A game that's actually impossible to beat? Nope... bad move.

At least, if anyone had a C64 version here and can prove me wrong with that complaint, then I take it all back, lmao. But certainly I could never do it anyway... and that just frustrated the bloody hell out of me so much.

I had the C64 version, and as far as I know it is unbeatable by any fair means, barring immense luck. Though I seem to recall I also once played it with a cheat enabled and just found that the toys cycled round without any end sequence.

Having said that, I thought the graphics were good and the music excellent. But the gameplay was poorly designed and playtested, no doubt.
