View Full Version : Are Most Dizzy Fan Games Too Un Original?

I was thinking about it, and most fan games just have ripped sprites, ripped music and normally the same story line to every other dizzy game. I was thinking this as my new dizzy game has all of this, and was thinking what would make it stand out! I think if you want your dizzy game to be popular then draw your own spirtes and compose your own music. If you cant do either than fair enough.
So thats brought me to the conclusion i will be changing all sprites in my new dizzy game, also music etc.
Not being a d**k head about it, but there are so many dizzy fan games (same goes to mario and sonic fan games) that just dont have their own feel to them...
Anyway, if your half way through making a game, maybe think about changing it abit? If your making a remake etc then of course it will need original graphics, but your own wont!
Anyway, i will stop going on now :v2_dizzy_confused2:
:v2_dizzy_happy:
Well, how I see it, just to try and balance things, some Fangames that were made in TGF or MMF or Gamemaker etc. that used ripped whatever tells me It's a Dizzy Fan that wants to make a Dizzy game who either prefer to use the original graphics because they usually give them a nice Dizzy feel, or only use original graphics but they want to use more fancier graphics because they don't how how to do it or who to turn to if they wanted help.
I know my Games used ripped graphics all the way through and has those "stuck" bugs which of course ruins it and most people don't know how to fix it.
I half agree with you, but I say It's their choice on what they want to do their Dizzy fangame, ripped graphics or not, I reakon DizzyAGE has kept a very good Dizzy feel and it doesn't really matter to me whatever Fangame gets made on whatever Gamemaker, just as long as It's playable :p.
Unoriginal or Authentic?
Dizzy's graphics didn't change much from Dizzy 1 to Prince of the yolkfolk did it? They just added extra tiles.
Im my opinion it's absolutely fine to rip graphics from dizzy 1 to 6 if you're going for an 8bit look. If the oliver twins and Big red did it for commercial games why can't we do it?
There is nothing stopping you adding your own tiles to give it you own look.
The reason it doesn't work for Sonic and Mario fan games is that each new game had entirely new graphic sets. (besides remakes)
Not being an expert on this really but i think the sprites/music can be the same just make sure you have an original not done before storyline. For instance the official games didn't have different sprites for every game necessarily just a different idea and approach to it in terms of what would happen and what jobs you needed to carry out to beat it. I think that is important.
In an ideal world we would want to re-write everything and make it our own but it's easier said than done.
not going to post anything long, cause i'm not in a good mood tonight and may end up saying something i regret.
suffice it to say i agree with AndyUK, and also think mat_dizzy has just badly insulted pretty much everyone who's ever made a fan game.

I didnt mean to offend anybody!
if my intention was to insult people, surely i would be insulting myself as i have released fan games in the past with ripped sprites and music!
I'm just suggesting, maybe i was a little ranty this morning when i posted it!
Again; i'm sorry. Just in my opinion the fan games with their own graphics (not nessasarly music) are the warmest. They are the ones you seem to remember more and get more attention.
Looking at a screenshot of a fan game with ripped graphics could be from any dizzy game, theres just no unuiqe feel to it!
But sure, it has potential if you have ripped sprites etc!
I will continue to make my game with the ripped tile set, just as it is a dedication game!
Again, i'm really sorry if i offended you. I hardly ever offend people!

Hi:v2_dizzy_happy:
I was thinking, maybe there would be more variation in the games if there were extra tiles to download. The more tiles, the more variation in the games. :dizzy_cool:
I have yet to make a game yet, but I feel if there were more tiles to download, then I can make my game more interesting. I could design some tiles, but I haven't tried that yet, but if there were more to download, then I could just get stuck in to it, rather than sitting designing my own tiles - that will come when I am more experienced with it.

Take 5 folks, I know people often have mixed opinions on such and such which can somtimes (not all the time) result in a flame or a misunderstanding.
Now I think what Matt was doing was basically asking is what do you guys see in various Fangames with ripped graphics. Not sure if that was right looking at the thread title but yeah.

Speaking as someone with not even the slightest ounce of technical wherewithall and who just eagerly awaits any kind of new Dizzy game whatsoever, personally I prefer the look of the traditional games, and as such find that the playability factor follows most with this type.
I think TF in particular has demonstrated some hugely imaginitive ways of recycling the standard tiles so that the worlds created look "new" and not done before. And as far as sprites are concerned, new ones emerged in each of the original games so I assume it's easy enough to do these from scratch?
:v2_dizzy_clapping: to everyone's efforts IMHO! :v2_dizzy_tongue2:
in reply to claire, there are a LOT of tiles already there. you may be surprised...
in reply to Clientfan, yes it is fairly easy to make your own tiles, providing you can draw them :p for example the huge block in Treasure Tomb was one that i made myself from parts of the existing blocks. it was fairly easy to make.
there's been quite a few new tiles added to DizzyAGE 2, and of course you can use any part of any tile to be what you want. I used part of a tree as a stick item in Diamond Mine.
also if you colour things slightly differently you can get an entirely different feel, again for example the Jungle area of Treasure Tomb, or Narnia in Dreamworld. but because you've kept the familiar tiles, it still feels like a dizzy game.
for my next game i need something that isn't in the tile set, but i'm hoping that i can use the various tiles to 'construct' it... :p
I believe the author of this thread should have looked at the graphical content of his own games before starting on everyone else.

For f*ks sake, its just like the old days, everyone rants at me
If you actually read my post i explained i have made games in the past with the original tile sets, and that ive changed my mind about it.
I also said i was going to edit that second link with my own tile set, and the first one was from 2005 - when i couldent draw sprites, which also included on my post saying if you cant do it then fair enough!
I admit my older games are un original!
Im hardly having a go at anyone! - Please, read my posts before having a go at me =S
Now i know why i left this friggin forum a while back...
Honestly if someone cant have their own opinion outlead by facists then whats the point?
Really though, everyone seems to hate me on this forum?!
I'm gonna close this thread before a massive rant starts!
