My favourite version is Sega Genesis/MegaDrive :)
Genesis. To the point where I emulate it on my DS 'cuz I haven't finished my Nomad battery pack yet.:dizzy_mad: But I have a question, was it on more than one nintendo system?:v2_dizzy_confused3:

I believe there was two versions for the nintendo, the standard NES version and one that takes advantage of the Aladain deck enhancer

When my sister turned seven among her presents there was a Sega Mega Drive with fantastic dizzy. I've been playing this game for 12 years soon and it still is the bests game ever made. I know the game inside and out.

I have voted for the NES plug-through version. I wasn't aware there was another NES version of Fantasic Adventures of Dizzy apart from this one.
Having played the game on the Game Gear, Master System and Mega Drive (all original as well as emulated) I have to say the NES version is by far the superior.
Okay, it doesn't have parallax scrolling backgrounds of 16 bit resolution sprites and it does have some sprite-flicker at times (fixed on the emulator) but it's got so much more quality content than the other versions. The game is far bigger than the Mega-Drive version with plenty of extra stuff to do and mini-games to take part in and for me the extra content gets my vote over the prettier 16 bit graphics.
The console and PC games never handled as well as the Spectrum / Commodore originals though - the game play there was just perfect. In the NES version of Fantastic Dizzy can feel a bit 'glidey' at times, particularly after jumping some where and the MD version he just walks too sloooow but I feel the PC conversions missed the mark totally - I find our little white friend almost uncontrollable with either keyboard / joypad! His jump is just all wrong...
Yup, NES version of this for me but I'd still rather take my Commodore games home any day... :v2_dizzy_walkman:

Ah yes, there are too versions.. Managed to get a hold of both on the emulator scene. The little version is essentially pointless, very cut down. (to give you an exacmple, theres only 100 stars to collect instead of 250. Big difference.) Also, the minigames with exception of the extra life seem to be missing... that's poo, isn't it!
But yeah, the big version is great.
Does the genesis version have the 'down the rapids' section? I can't seem to find it!
NES verion.
There's no Rapid Dizzy in Ganesis version.
Neither has the Amiga version. I may be wrong but it seems that the Nintendo version is the only one with the Rapids section; on all the others you can pick the barrel up from the right hand end of Bridge Street with nothing to impede you.
Am I right in thinking that the Nintendo version is also the only one to have a plant producing a poisonous spray (on the board to the right of the Yolkfolk village where you get the mushroom for Grand Dizzy's medicine)?
Ehh...In Blue and red version some items are placed in different locations.

By the way there was a version on NEK (in its Russia name the Dendy), what Dizzi very-oen slowly goes, and what of a vault not to jump out in any way (((.Hy it knows? And a question. Where the key which was given by the king for the rescued cow approaches?
You're missing the PC version in your poll. I'm playing that on DOSBox.

I have this game on both the NES and Sega Megadrive but the Megadrive had the best Dizzy game graphics we have seen, they looked so smooth and colourful so the Megadrive gets my vote :v2_dizzy_thumbsup:

I believe that's also how you get the barrel of pirate's rum in the "blue version"; there the pickaxe is your prize for going down the rapids instead. But now I need to find where they moved the pickaxe in the "red version", because that was my ticket to the part of the game that apes Treasure Island Dizzy!
(I've been sampling both versions for a little while now, trying to decide which one is more difficult...)
EDIT: Oh, they left it on the beach. Well that's convenient. But I'm sure it would still tempt the average player to try to use it all over the diamond mine either way.

Is there a rapid part in DOS version?

I don't know yet, but I did find out the river rapid game is still in the Master System/Game Gear versions, only it's a bit different: Dizzy's barrel moves a lot faster, and the trolls no longer attack from the water or the land. Instead their barrels float across certain points of the river on balloons to bomb Dizzy from above, but it's rare that you'll ever end up near them, so overall that part of the game is a lot easier. Other things were made harder, though; I like how the Keldor castle shoot-out is much faster-paced. Oh, and I never found any side exits to the other streets from the river like the NES version has.
Am I right in thinking that the Nintendo version is also the only one to have a plant producing a poisonous spray (on the board to the right of the Yolkfolk village where you get the mushroom for Grand Dizzy's medicine)?
Was it a plant? I thought it was supposed to be a volcano off in the distance, spewing molten rock onto Dizzy's location. Anyway, it is also in the Master System and Game Gear versions, only it spews even faster!

Were the NES versions also the only ones with those instant-death rope traps, where you have to jump through a thin white line to survive?

True..true. DOS version is a great version. Anyway, what about BIG 6? Anything special in that version? Someone have that version? I planned to do longplay of whole BIG 6 game.

I have no idea, but if you find anything special, you should certainly include it in your longplays!

What is BIG 6?

From a quick Web search, I've found that it's a collection of 6 Dizzy games for the Commodore Amiga CD32; basically, it's every Dizzy adventure game that had been released for Amiga except Fantasy World Dizzy. And the version of Fantastic Dizzy included on it is said to be updated to take advantage of CD music and AGA graphics.

Thanks :)
How come no Fantasy World? That's an odd exclusion...

I dunno, maybe space was getting tight and they had to drop one. I think Fantasy World Dizzy was one of the earliest 16-bit Dizzy updates and the only one where the in-game sprites were made to resemble the large artworks (see Dizzy's hat, nose, arms and legs), so they probably also thought it would look strange next to all the other games with the more traditional Dizzy design.
As for Fantastic Dizzy, I remember seeing rumors on this forum that the CD32 version added a save feature and the river rapids mini-game. Therefore I hope Lemmy finds a copy of it so we can have video proof of this stuff.

Did you find anything cool yet? I was thinking that whoever plays that compilation should check to see if the "Trade coin for bean, trade cow for Prince's secret sign" trick works, to help confirm whether it's a MegaDrive-only secret.

Well, havent played it.There will be NES longplays about Fastastic Dizzy and Treasure island Dizzy coming soon.. CD32 games doesnt run so easily on WinUAE. I should ask soon how setup those(kickstart roms). As soon as that happens I will make a longplay.

i voted for the Amiga version as the Amiga was the computer i had growing up and where i played most (if not all) the Dizzy games at first, well i may have played some on the PC but they were very similar ports
i have since having the internet tried other versions of the game but the Amiga beats them still in my opinion, i love the music, graphics and of course the games overall plot and length
the length of course makes this trickier then some Dizzy games (but at least Theodore is on hand to grant extra lives) and that for a while put me off playing it but i'm happy to report recently i completed it, even if it did take a few hours
i like the reuse of puzzles, combination of characters and the little extra games added in such as Bubble Dizzy and the Minecart Chase - i'm almost sad to have completed it as it means i have completed all the Dizzy adventures on the Amiga so it is either onto 8-bit versions or just run through them all again (which wouldn't be a bad thing)
