So, if I may be so bold as to ask, what's everyone playing at the minute? Personally, I'm currently enjoying 'Act of War' from Eugene Systems / Atari, a great real time strategy game. It's so eaaaasy to play in the vein of Red Alert, but has amazing 3D graphics and effects, not to mention some outstanding locales to skirmish in... The city blocks are great maps, you can garrison building with snipers and get your Javelin units (Bazooka guys) up on the roof to take down Apaches that the enemy throw at you. The units look great and there's plenty of special effects (smoke trails from rocket launchers, tanks blowing to bits and wheels flying off, buildings crumbling etc). It's a great, great game that RTS fans do not want to miss.... I got it free as well, on a BOGOF offer when I bought the Movies Stunts and Effects expansion. :D
I'm also enjoying X3, the open-ended space flight sandbox style game at the moment too, I've downloaded some custom scripts for it recently that add cool little features like being able to become an Argon taxi driver taking people from space station to space station which is pretty fun.
For those of you who haven't played it, google it now if you like huge, open-ended games... It's too much for me to go into detail on, but you can do anything in that game with regards to living out an existence in space. It's kind of like a huge, massively expanded 'Elite', THE fantastic space game from the 8 bit era that I'm sure we all know and love ;)
This game takes the concept one step further though. Eventually and with enough credits, you can buy huge transport ships and your own station kits, which you can hire a crew to assemble for you in space and sell your own wares. Off course, you need to hire fleets of ships to protect it from pirates and hostile races....
As I say, if it sounds of interest to you please google the game, it'll be explained in more detail elswhere I am sure.....
Check out some of these screens (As you can see, big chunks of metal in space excite me, lol):
