As most of you will be aware i've now turned my attentions onto a remake of Magicland.
As of last night the map was completed, and this morning the first puzzle was coded (the backdoor on the castle, not exactly a hard one to do ;) )
Originally i planned the release date for this game as 29th April, but have now brought it forward to 31st March as i don't believe it is as hard to code as fantasy world was.
I've also changed the dizzyage default sounds to the ones used in magicland (jump, the noise dizzy makes when landing after a jump, drop item and pickup diamond sounds)
and here are the screenshots.....

Now this version of Magicland I will look forward to :D
i'm really looking forward to this, cause it's the one game where i never actually got all that far...
Update:
This remake will now be released next saturday (07/04/2007).
The game is virtually complete with only a few items left to code, including the vampire, slime in the dungeon, the sinking lilly pads and the fireworks at the end of the game :v2_dizzy_wink:
I should have these done in the next two days, giving me a few days to test.
Anyone whom wants to beta test a copy just let me know.
dammit i'm moving house on the 5th!
and i don't know when i'll get the internet back up.
at least it'll give me time to work on Dreamworld. :D
I'll be happy to beta test it for you m8 when It's ready :)
Completed and now available from Theo's Grotto :)

Hello to all in the Dizzy Community, this is my first post :v2_dizzy_thumbsup:
Ive been playing the Magicland Remake, after saving the last of the yolkfok and Zaks booms his voice (making the clouds rise at the top of the volcano),
I dunno if this is a glitch but Dizzy cant climb the volcano.
Anyone else had the same problem
This was the first dizzy game I completed after the original in full (all diamonds collected) on the old Speccy :v2_dizzy_clapping:

Congratulations for the game!
I updated the DizzyAGE website to include it on the games page.
http://www.simion.co.uk/dizzyage/games.html
I spoted a small bug:
While on the cover screen, pressing esc, the menu does not have
the same look as on the yolkfolk screen. It have just a black background rectangle, no bolders and stuff.
Thanks :)
I've fixed the menu bug and updated the downloads, just never thought to disable the game cover when displaying the menu :v2_dizzy_rolleyes:
also has anyone else had any problems getting up the volcano like "Lord Dizzy of Yolkfolk"?
:v2_dizzy_frown:
Yes, I can't get up the mountain either once I've freed the yolkfolk (though I was able to get up there earlier on in the game before I started to liberate the eggy bunch).
can you send me a copy of the saved game via a private message of where the problem is please, so i can look at the problem.
Thanks :)
I've had a look at this problem, but i can always seem to be able to jump up there!
So i've added a trigger just below the small rock that will move dizzy up above the small stone in the room above. Hopefully this will solve the problems some people are having. The download at TG has been updated.

Yes that has solved the problem Pteal
I redownloaded it from Theos Grotto but then my saved game wouldnt work. Anyway started the game again and finished it earlier on this morning.
Hi Pteal,
Firstly let me congratulate you on a splendid remake of Magicland, its been a long time since I last played it.
Secondly, I see above that you say you can save the game? How do you do this?
Well if you press Q during gameplay, you should see a save option on the options box, choose the slot you want to save in and there ya go :)
To load a game, press Q during gameplay and select the load option.
Hope this helps :)
I'm nearer finishing Magicland, but am stuck on finding Cracks of Gehenna, so I can throw the ring in it :v2_dizzy_confused2:
Can anyone help please :v2_dizzy_happy:
i've not actually played up to that yet, but isn't it the lava pits to the left of the devil?
i could be wrong.
^^ Yep, drop zaks ring while standing on the center rocks between the lava :v2_dizzy_happy:
Thank you for your help :v2_dizzy_happy:
I have now completed Magicland Dizzy :v2_dizzy_clapping:

right, i've got it!
i've started treasure island dizzy remake, pteal!
its great, i feel 10 years old again (sort of)
i'll update you:v2_dizzy_clapping:
well i was talking to Adz.M earlier, and he mentioned that Peter had put a secret bit into Magicland, so i went in search of it, and found this:
<img src="http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/temptationfeeder/magicland.jpg">
yes i did look in the code to find it, but i didn't use dev mode to get to it, i used objects. i'm not going to tell you how to get there, what you give to the green guy, or what he gives you back, but leave it as a challenge for y'all. ;)
only thing i will tell you is that you need to play the 3.5 subgame first, and take a couple of items with you into magicland...
happy hunting!
this games been out 8 months i'm suprised its taken this long for some to find it.
But then it's really well hidden :v2_dizzy_happy:
yeah it'll give everyone something to do for a while until TOS, TUCA, and RRD are released!
That's really sneaky!
I spent a while trying to find the tower after the post with the screenshot appeared, and found it after a couple of goes, but it took me quite a bit longer to find what you need to give to him.
Although now I've done it life should be quite a bit easier. :v2_dizzy_wink2:
didn't know there was meant to be a secret tower..
nice

I found the wee secret room, but I can't find the thing you're supposed to give him. I know it's not essential to complete the game but I'd like to find it.
Also, I think I've found a bug. After you've saved Dylan and the cauldron on Glenda's island is lit, every time you pass over the island going towards the volcano (which you have to do at least twice), you can't avoid jumping into the flames. You can jump straight back out again, which means you only lose some energy rather than dying, but I remember that you were able to avoid the flames entirely on the original game.
I have found where the secret room is but I just can't seem to get there

I have a problem. I can't seem to be able to pass the river on the back of the shark, it moves way too fast. This is not how it was back when I used to own a Spectrum (roughly 15 years ago).
you just need to jump at the right time.. its tricky.

I know, I just miss the way it was on Spectrum back in the old days. It was easier, the shark moved slower.
If I want to get to the castle, I wouldn't jump, I try to walk onto the fin when It's close to land, leaving the castle, I just walk off the window in "A tower with a view" avoiding the shark.
The shark has always moved fast on the Spectrum, but slower on the Commodore where you can only jump on the fin.

The shark has always moved fast on the Spectrum, but slower on the Commodore where you can only jump on the fin.
I'm pretty sure it didn't unless there was some difference between various categories of Spectrum computers. I used a 48k and the shark was moving at the same speed with Dizzy.
On my +2a speccy the shark was always abit faster than dizzy so you had to jump in the direction you were travelling to stay on.

Hey Peter, thanks for making this and all your other Dizzy remakes. Now we get to play MagicLand with an in-game save, for one thing! The idea to let you play Dizzy 3.5 and continue into MagicLand was great, I wish I'd thought of it first, and now we get to play it with music and red boots and gloves.
I did find some flaws, though. Some important messages are missing, like when you examine the left side of the stone with the sword, it should say
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/carving.png
"- The carving reads - Whosoever pulls Excalibur from the stone shall be king"
I also haven't been able to get the messages for examining Dozy the first time to appear. That shouldn't be missable!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/dozy.png
"'Dozy! Hey,wake up sleepyhead!'"
"...But Dozy is absolutely out cold, even by his standards"
"It'll take a huge shock to wake him up!"
And it appears the death message for the troll is missing. If your life bar gets finished off by the troll's kick, it should say
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/trollkic.png
"The troll kicked you hard!"
But instead it uses whatever your last death was.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/burnt.png
In the "Into MagicLand" segment, there should have been messages for using the ropes on Grand-Dizzy's machine singly.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/longrope.png
"It's not quite long enough!"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/shortrop.png
"It's nowhere near long enough!"
I can understand if you want to make knotting the rope a priority when you're holding both ropes in front of the machine, though, lest the player miss the solution.
And now I'm nitpicking, but I was always bothered by the misspelling of "kidnapped".
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/neapped.png
I saw some odd behaviors in the remake, too. If I fall into the middle of the lake in the Into MagicLand area, then the life bar runs out right away, but Dizzy continues standing or walking or tumbling uncontrollably for several seconds before he finally floats up and brings up the death message.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/waterwal.png
There's something strange about the stairs above Excalibur. You can walk down them, but you can't walk back up to "Out on a Limb" on them; Dizzy gets stuck as if against an invisible wall, so you have to drop down one step and jump up instead. I suppose it has something to do with the way DizzyAGE allows Dizzy to interact with walls off the edge of the screen where the staircase is repeated. It's not a big deal, but it's just a little strange and annoying, especially when other stairs across screens work just fine, including the ones on the very next screens to the left.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/stairs.png
Now, the place that is really bad is that upper-right corner of the castle over the bed where you can get trapped forever!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/RyanFerneau/Dizzy/magstuck.png
Also, it doesn't seem to be possible to get killed by a harpy in this version. You can ride the volcano clouds high enough to jump up and see the harpy, but the clouds themselves don't continue across screens to "The Harpy's Eyrie".
And I think this was in the original, but you can get messed over even worse if you drop the gold cross in front of Vampira after you get the infinite lives secret. I couldn't even reach the main menu again!
Sorry if it sounds like I'm putting you down for letting a few mistakes or bugs slip in, but I like to use these remakes to show off the original Dizzy series to friends, so I prefer them to be as faithful to the official releases as possible, and I appreciate if you can find time to fix anything.
v2.0 is now available for download.
Changes
:egg: Game updated to DizzyAGE 2.4 (Was on 1.31)
:egg: Sorted out all issues raised by Bag of Magic Food
:egg: Fixed an issue with the rat in the well, where you could keep playing the pipes after the rat had gone.
Also the updates were all done and tested on a mac ;) (then rechecked in windows just in case)
It's been a while since I last looked at this remake. :)
I don't remember if I actually ever mentioned this, but you've spelt my surname wrong in the credits. There's no 'L' in Markey :p
Also, the game crashes when I try to change the SFX volume in the 'in-game' options, same on Prince of the Yolkfolk.
Sorry m8 :v2_dizzy_blush:
Also, the game crashes when I try to change the SFX volume in the 'in-game' options, same on Prince of the Yolkfolk.
I'd suggest that the sound sample it uses was probably renamed in sounds.gs, so the code for the SFX volume menu will reference a non-existent sound and crash the game.
Bugger!
I'll get the games updated and reuploaded

Oh no... Peter, I found one more bug that could be a serious problem. Someone I know was streaming this game online as he played it for the first time, and he managed to lose the dagger by cutting a leaf off Dylan more than once, which meant he couldn't free the goat to get past the troll as he hadn't thought to cut the rope yet. I checked it out for myself, and I think what happens is although the leaf can only exist in one location at a time, you can get multiple instances of it in your inventory by reusing the dagger, and if you fill the inventory with leaves, it pushes the dagger out and gets rid of it; I guess it gets overwritten by a leaf, somewhere, somehow? So I think just making sure that the game only produces the leaf once should solve that problem, and then you'll have something more to show for the next update than just fixing that sound volume reference error. (I think we might have also vanished the magic lamp once, but I have no idea how, and we just reloaded a saved game to make sure we had it again.)
Also, were you able to find any ways to make those volcano clouds easier to ride high on, or is the programming too tricky to mess with?
