Hi evereyone,
I'm posting this one for Ronald Gerrard who sent me a demo of his first game.
It has a couple of screens and, as the title says, it's about time travel.....

Check it out in the games page:

I'll direct the author here, so feel free to post comments or improvement ideas.

Hmmm, Excalibur Dizzy meets Dizzy Who. Could be interesting....:dizzy_smile:
looking good!
I must be tired though, I can't find any glue anywhere. There's only 4 rooms to look in!
EDIT:: never mind...

Jamie, try the 2nd one. I quite like this style, revisiting places to get further on in the game.
Thank You. If you have any ideas, suggestions or tip's for the full game that you like to see or you would think would be cool to see in the Final game. Please let me know.
I will check back in the forum now and then when I can to see what everybody thinks.:dizzy_smile:
Many Thanks
Ron.
Ron,
nice idea, nice graphics, nice feel to it (we'll see if you keep up that homey feel when Dizzy ends up in another time/ other times).
Now for what can be improved:
- up arrow doesn't work for me, the spacebar does though - I'm not used to playing Dizzy with both hands, so I prefer the up arrow for jump;
- in Dizzy's bedroom, Daisy looks like she's floating (unless she's in the middle of a cheerleading cheer... she has just the hair for it!);
- personal peeves of mine:
a) punctuation (you have "Dizzy where is Grand Dizzy's cake!" instead of "Dizzy, where is Grand Dizzy's cake?"; or "A mysterious blue box appears?" instead of "A mysterious blue box appears!" or "Dizzy you found! The cake!" instead of "Dizzy, you found the cake!" or... or... or...)
b) grammar (you have "There's jars" instead of "There are jars")
c) spelling (you have "That's were I put it!" instead of "That's where I put it!"; or "moveing off" instead of "moving off")
I'm a former EFL teacher (English as a Foreign Language) so I may be supersensitive, and others will probably burn me at stake here, but when the game's language is polished, it plays as if it were written by a professional.
- what is "an unclick sound"?
- you probably don't need to break short sentences into several message windows, such as "We need it for the party" and "this evening!"... one window would suffice (yes, there are situations when it works for comedic relief, or if the character is hesitating or... or..., but here, it didn't make sense);
- I thought the jump out the door of the blue box was rather accidental... only found it after trying to open the door by actioning on it, and when it didn't work, I started walking back and forth, and then jumping;
Those are minor issues but fixing them might be worth the time. If you need help error-proofing your dialogue and message boxes, I'd be happy to help.
Cheers and I'm waiting for the full game!
Kirk
Hi Thank You for thoughts Kirk.
I am currently working on the full game and I'll try to
Correct those mistakes.
Many Thanks.
Ron.
Yeah you'll have to change the jump button.
Also watch were you have that snail, it hits it soon as you enter the room sometimes.
Im not sure what im meant to be doing, the box has appeared and the doors are locks and i;i've ate both bits of food.. is that as fair as the demo goes?
I don't think the look of the box fits in with the rest of the game, perhaps you could make it more in line with the rest of the graphics? I mean it don't have to be a tardis as such does it?

I must be getting the hang of what people expect from games, since I mentioned the same issues that Kirkub noted (about jump, punctuation, split sentences). Luckily Dizzy games don't have voice packs - or native speakers will jump high :)
Hi the Tardis graphics is from a earlier looking style of dizzy graphics that I used for this demo.
and I have always been a fan of dr who.
and I think using the Tardis as the time machine. Is probably better than anything I could come up with. Because everyone can recognize it
everybody knows what it does and I always thought it would be cool
to bring the world of dr who and dizzy. Those two worlds together to see something we never seen before like, what would happen if dizzy failed and what would wizard Zak do if he ruled the land and the world of dizzy?
To show in a sense how important dizzy is as a hero and using
the time travel element of the story to see that and also to have a bit of fun with it.
The demo does have an ending and it is fully solvable.
Thanks DizzyFan and I am working on a few ideas with the full game which I hope will surprise players and add a new dimension of solving puzzles and gaming to dizzy.
More of that coming soon.
All the best
Ron. Thank you for your posts.
is that as fair as the demo goes?
no, try examining the vegetation

Very cool demo
Where will Dizzy end up??
I've finished the demo, It's a brilliant start Ron :) Good luck with finishing the whole game. :)
I'm not trying to put you off, but there's a similar demo by Peter Teal called Dizzy Who: Into the Tardis (http://yolkfolk.com/site/games.php?game_id=17) that came out a few years ago.
At the moment, the game is unlikely to be finished, but I have a feeling he might come back to it in the future when he finishes the remakes, as it involves revisiting areas. But then again I'm not entirely sure.
Hi, I have played Dizzy into the Tardis and that's were I first got the idea.
To make a dizzy who adventure.
But mine is totally a different and separate adventure from his and if he does wants to finish it he can.
I am only using the same concept of time travel using the Tardis. But I am going to take it in a totally different direction with it.
To put dizzy in a situration to expore the different aspects you can get with time travel. Like time paradoxes and because future dizzy has died once.
Will this happen a second time to past dizzy? or can he avoid his fate.
or is he dead at all?
Just to give the player an enjoyable experence and to breath new life into the dizzy brand concept. That's all I am trying to do.
Plus his was a much older style graphics of dizzy, while mine is fantastic dizzy style graphics.
But that was a excellent point. I am glad you asked me that.
Many Thanks.
Ron.

thanks enjoyed the demo, look forward to playing the finished version, well done :v2_dizzy_clapping:
Will it be ready in time for the easter comp?
:)
Hi I didn't know that there was one. I won't have it finished by Easter
because I just started working on expanding the map and then I have to
work on the puzzles and I want to try some new things out with the game.
That I haven't done before. So there's still a lot of work to do yet.
and it is still a couple of months off I am afraid before I have
a finished rough concept.
But thanks for asking.
Ron.
you've got till may 1st.... :dizzy_wink:
I'll try. But I don't won't to rush it because it will compromise the gameplay.
And I want to take my time with it.
No guarantees. But I'll try to work towards it.
Many Thanks
Ron.
