Right, my 'Tutorial Game' is now finished, so here it is!

<b>Make your own Dizzy Game (Tutorial)</b>

<img src="http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp106/eqixx/myodmain.png">

<b>Download the latest version (v1.0) from:</b>

<a href="http://dizzystories.110mb.com/makeyourown.php" target="_blank">Dizzy Stories</a> (v1.0)

<a href="http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/articles_tech.html" target="_blank">DizzyAGE website</a> (v1.0)

<b>Notes:</b>

This Tutorial is based on the Dizzy 3.5 map, and starts from scratch, talking you through coding 10 puzzles, as well as dangers, coins, and coding the ending. Additionally, there are 3 optional parts, showing you how to change the HUD, coding an 'animated' intro screen, and how to implement waterplay - with an Aqualung and Bubbles.

I do assume that the user has some basic knowledge of the Map Editor, so watching the first 2 or 3 of my Video Tutorials first would help. Even just playing around with the Editor to get a feel for it would be better than nothing.

Hopefully people will find this tutorial easy to follow, and I hope that most people manage to work their way through it. I think they'll probably find that it's actually much easier to do than they imagine it will be, and hopefully it'll lead to more people making games! :)

<b>Donate</b>

The Tutorial is free to use, however if it helps you and you like it enough, please consider <a href="http://dizzystories.110mb.com/donate.php" target="_blank">donating</a>. :)

You da man. Seriously. I'm going to start using this right away and follow it through from start to finish. This should be included with all future versions of Dizzy Age! Just an idea ;)

Thanks Jamie, sincerely.

Real men don't read instructions

technically, the whole thing is one big giant set of instructions.

your logic therefore dictates that anyone who downloads it isn't a real man*.

So tell me meph, Did you download it?**

:p

*this may be a relief to Quiggie

**before answering, bear in mind that I have access to website visit info which can be broken down by town ;)

Well i always read instructions but thats because I'm not a 'real' man.
fact.

However i don't recall downloading your tutorial, I'll have to check.

Not sure actually. The page went up on October 8th. Within the last month you visited on September 24th (3 pages, 27 seconds) and October 9th (4 pages, 1 minute exactly). Chances are good that the latter visit was to check out the Tutorial. Whether you actually downloaded it or not is another matter, as I don't have data on that.

I love Google Analytics

P.S. it also helps that you live in back-of-nowhereville :p

I know! In fact, it's one of the first things it tells us! That's why I was rolling my eyes... How can you possibly get anywhere within the tutorial without first going through the bit that stops dizzy starting in the wrong place. I'm on your side here, Jamie :)

It's up on DizzyAGE:

Thanks a lot Jamie for writing this tutorial and for helping everyone with their questions here on the forums.

Alex, I think if Jamie and you agree this should be included in it's own folder along with the Dizzyage download and a readme.txt pointing to it in the main folder. What do you guys think? Just an idea from an outsider... :dizzy_biggrin:

Not sure if it should be included in the same zip with the engine,
but I mentioned it in the "How to begin" (http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/articles/howto_begin.html) article, which is linked both from the download page and from the articles page.

P.S. hit refresh on those html pages because for some people they're cached locally and updates doesn't always show up.

I don't know about that tbh. I wouldn't want to complicate matters, as it's obviously not an 'official' DizzyAGE tutorial, and therefore some of the ways I've coded stuff may not be the best way, or may not be the way Alex himself would have done them. Quite apart from the fact that it references my videos and assumes some knowledge of the editor, I'm not certain that everyone would find it easy to do, and I wouldn't want people to get frustrated with DizzyAGE just because they can't do my tutorial.

I don't really mind either way at the end of the day, but I just thought I'd point out some possible downsides. :)

Well now theres so many ways to learn how you use dizzyage and build a game theres a method for everyone, or a bit of everything.. from the videos, manuals tutorials, demos.. i mean you guys can't make it any easier lol.

The tutorial is great, Delta, thanks! I'm finding it straightforward enough (though I'm a programmer, so I'm used to code). I never thought I'd make a Dizzy game, but now I might!

This has been downloaded over 130 times now, which has rather surprised me!

I wonder how many people have got through the tutorial and will actually make their own game...?

During the run up to the easter comp theres always a surprise entry that we didn't really know about.. last year it was Dizzy oops and the year before that it was Knightmare Dizzy, so perhaps will get some more surprise entrys as we near the dead line.
