I started making my next game over christmas. Thought i'd show a little teaser. I'm not going to rush it like I did with SBD, so it may, or may not be ready for the competition. There is no story or name yet.

BEWARE you can't climb out of the water yet, if you fall in!

that was pretty much my reaction too when i saw it the other day!

my second reaction was that I'll have to really up the graphical detail for GBD!

Looks like scene decorating really is your specialty! :v2_dizzy_eek: It looks like a haunted tourist attraction too. :D

WOW!
loving the look of it already!:v2_dizzy_clapping:

one small thing, and i appreciate its only a demo map, but you can get stuck 'under the boardwalk' right at the end of the 'island hop'.

Cant wait to play the full game, you have really whetted our appetites!!

Looking good Colin!!

As alaways the background and scenery are very detailed.

Scrolling works great - really adds another dimension - tho I get a slight screen flicker effect from the scroll - should this happen?

To add to my suggestions I posted you the other day -
- The moving sky background - I find gives me a little motion sickness as it moves at the same pace as Dizzy. It may be better if the backdrop moved at a slower speed - or even to get some perspective, different backdrop items/layers moved at different speeds?
- When dizzy drowns underwater he doesnt respawn on land - tho this may just apply for the demo version
- Underwater looked OK, but I'm coming to expect much bigger things from you. I didnt notice bubbles and I suppose there will be more scenery in the finished version- are these being put in the full version?

Great glimpse so far - cant wait for the full version :v2_dizzy_clapping:

The respawning and bubbles are done in the code. You have to give the ID numbers to the bubbles etc. Colin's just doing the map bit at the mo I presume.

I love that blue tint underwater. I may have to rob your rocky tiles for my next game if that's ok :D I'm all excited about playing this now!

i'm using the built in scrolling, that was added to dizzyage 2.3. not sure if i could do anything about it:v2_dizzy_confused2:

i'll look at this much later in developement,to see if i can improve this.

i haven't started coding it yet. only the barrel is done!

underwater area is only at an early stage and bubbles aren't setup yet!
thank you for your input, DizzyFanUK! :)

Looks great, really artistic and I have enjoyed your previous games Colin so will look forward to this one, I agree with the "motion sickness" though. This will be my first year "here" for the competition - I'll almost definitely never be submitting my own game but can't wait to try a batch of new ones from everyone!!!

Indeed a very nice looking game :)

Colin, I emailed you about the motion sickness / flickering.

Unfortunately there isn't much I can do about it. The rendering works as it should. It's an effect of sharp graphics scrolled on LCD monitors. Like text pages in Windows. Depends on the quality of the LCD monitor and it's refresh rate. Shouldn't happen on a CRT monitors, though not many people use them these days.

Another thing for you guys to try is to set in full screen (windowed=0) at a 640x480 resolution (or one different from LCD native resolution) so the monitor will blur the graphics (I know, it looks terrible!) and see if you still get the flickering or the motion sickness.

In the end I could come up with a post-processing filter to do this blur effect on the graphics, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

Looks absolutely georgeous Colin and I like the background effect. I note the game scrolls.

Looks like another very high quality is in the offering, said it before but you are highly creative :v2_dizzy_clapping:

One thing:
I think the stars layer is slowly scrolling too.
Maybe it should be standing still, in fact they're far, far away.
And if they don't move, they won't filker :)

yes, i've since switched it back to a fixed background from the last build. did it when i played around with stopping the y scroll when reaching certain location points.

Not quite!
The fantastic dizzy one is around 8100 pixels long
my one is about 5700
