My next game now in development is called FEVERBOUND DIZZY
Grand Dizzy's Birthday
Its Grand Dizzys Birthday, but not just any birthday, hes reached a grand milestone and the yolkfolk clan were having a party bash to celebrate. Along with lots of grub & drinks they had decided to give him as a surprise an extra special treat, Dora & Daisy prepared old Grand Mother Dizzys special soup recipe that she used to make Grand Dizzy all those years ago. They were all there to took in except
Dizzy & Danny.
The Story (Main Plot)
Dizzy had been taking his time replying back to Danny who had to turn down the invitation as he couldnt make it. However he was returning from the postbox having eventually getting there outside the post office in posting the reply and was late making his way to the party. For once as it turned out just as well. The ever not so friendly Zaks wasnt going to let the yolfolk celebrate so freely & enjoy the occasion and so tampered with the soup recipe pot by posioning it.
Dora but particuarly Daisy as they had been testing the soup was to required taste had consumed the most and along with the others all became ill & all had to be admitted to the nearest hospital. Having been examined they have come down with fever through zakenella poisoning. The severity of the fever was dependent on the amount each have eaten. Theodore on realising what had happened prepared some medical kits which holds just the right amount of antidote to neutralise the differing levels of fever. Theodore was waiting on the bridge Dizzy had to cross in returning from the post box with the medical kits to explain the situation. Unfortunately Zaks wasnt going to make it that easy and spread the medical kits all over the land.
Dizzy must search the land to find the medical kits and take the correct one with the right level of antidote to treat each of the Yolkfolk & sort the soup pot to make it safe for consuming again.
Additional Tasks/Story Plots
Before he can do this he needs to find a way to get hold of a train ticket to enable him to ride the train to get to the hospital.
Once at the hospital he will meet the troll who is returning for some additional treatment from being hit by a cannonball, will the troll
realise it was dizzy who used the stray cannonball Dozy found down the well and gave him in Swampland ?
Dizzy will also have additional tasks to complete as Zaks in causing more displeasure dispersed a personal item for each of the yolkfolk so they wouldnt be comforted in hospital too much.

Im not posting any screen shots yet as the game is in early development although quite a bit of the map is already drawn and unlike Swampland it wont be finish any time soon. It is going to be about 50% bigger than swampland however & is a lot of work ahead.
Just another to look forward to eventually but it will be a long way off :v2_dizzy_happy:
the intro screen looks good! :v2_dizzy_clapping: however the story is rather long and complicated! :v2_dizzy_crazy:

All will make sense with the intro and when can play :v2_dizzy_tongue2:
Reorganised the story text so hopefully reads a bit easier.

Thanks Mateus, glad you do & have mentioned as I was really pleased with the texture effect that is part of it.

Is that what those orange bowling balls are called on Fantastic Dizzy? :v2_dizzy_tongue2:
I like the colour detail on the HUD too, I wish you good luck m8 :)
Would you like this game to be mentioned on the Coming Soon page of Yolkfolk.com?

Ha ha, yes they could be Adz, and the occasions I played that game all the way to the end years ago only to lose all my lives as
I couldnt get to the top in avoiding them
Glad you like the HUD too, thanks for the good luck, i'll will actually need it as I have a long way to go and no doubt a few coding difficulties along the way.
Yes you can mention it on the 'coming soon', except it wont be that soon but I do intend to complete it regardless of
how long it takes :v2_dizzy_thumbsup:

Thanks Adz.
Bit of an update:-
The map is about 80% done I would say now although I am at times working about with the development. Ive completed the intro to the game & coded the first opening puzzles/tasks.
Made some additional bits to the game which im really pleased with, I think everyone is really gonna enjoy.
In terms of the plot to the story, essentially the yolkfolk gets poisioned and theyve all come down with fever and dizzy has to search the land to find the medical kits Theodore prepared with the right level of dosage to treat them. I quite liked the idea to which to try base another game around so decided I would forage into developing.
As we have had 'Spellbound' as an official release game I thought upon that and why not have 'Feverbound' as the title name, Im curious as to others thoughts on this theme as Dizzy9 commented he liked the idea too.
The music which will have to be done last I may have a bit of issue with as the conversion program I used for the swampland only lasted for 15 days usage. Even though ive tried reinstalling I cant get to use again. At the moment im having to use 2 conversions, Audacity being the 2nd to get the file into Ogg file format but unless its my speakers its losing sound quality and sounds a little bit of interference so no good.

But for coins, baddies and some bits & bats the map is pretty much there.
Done part of the ending section.
Coded a few more puzzles.
Not been spending that much time on it just recently, its a case of time and when
I feel up to doing so. No screen shots yet as is a lot of work still to do in the coding,
and not to forget the testing.

Somehow, god knows how but my dizzy.map got screwed up or corrupted
I got a right shock when after I couldnt load the game anymore the file had become 1kb, the other files had too. After a brief panic thinking thats it ive lost the whole game I knew fortunately I had a backup copy....always pays.
Ive just lost a bit of the work done as im lucky as I did updated copy of it only about 3-4 days ago....phew...
God knows how that happened though with the files...
Ive now made 2 back up copies lol
quiggie
25-11-09, 07:28 PM
2 back-up copies! better safe than sorry - thank god for back-up all our patient waiting could have been for nowt :v2_dizzy_tongue2:
ooo good job you'd backed up!
for backups i usually just email zip files to myself containing the data, but with CoTM being so big, i upload it to filefactory every so often.

Oh I know :v2_dizzy_rolleyes:, my god momentarily was one of those horrible moments weve all had from time to time, when you think oh no, but yes thankfully the backup copy saved the game.

Yes was and fortunately although I had the back up copy and time to time I do update that as I progress, I did a lot of work and hadnt for ages but for doing that 3-4 days ago, phew I did that otherwise I would of lost loads of work, anyway ive spent tonight getting to where I was so all ok. I hadnt done that much more.
I tend just to simply make a copy of the game file which holds everything but I suppose thats more prone to summat untowards...
didn't his happen to someone not too long ago and they had to start over ;)

You know I did wonder :v2_dizzy_blush:
Ive got round the music situation now, and the quality sound is really rich :v2_dizzy_smile:, although the size of the files are larger than would like with broadband speeds now it shouldnt matter too much about the download size being higher.
Ive applied the title screen music and the main music for the game which ties in with the name of the game.
Made a change to the tiltle screen (at beginning of thread).

Not really made much more progress although but for the Yolkfolk Interactions now most of the rest of the game is coded. As im busy with other things as well at the moment its when I feel up to doing so in amongst...so its little by little...
So work to do to complete:-
1. Code the Yolkfolk interactions in & out of hospital (the main work along with the sequence)
2. Work out the sequence of the game
3. Add the coins
4. Add any additional baddies, some are already added
5. Decide if any more pieces of music are to be added
(Title Screen Music and only a couple of game playing at present)
Been working on some icons (both for this and Swampland) which should show in my email signature now below.

Been playing about with title screen again, so now its as shown:-
(quietly says, sorry Adz I changed it again)
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu269/Lmtthw/Feverbound%20Dizzy/FeverboundTitleScreeniii.jpg
1. In the main the interactions are coded but still further bits of code to be done and added as sequence is worked out.
2. Started on the sequence but right at the beginning with this - this bit ain't gonna be easy, finding this tricky already
to avoid any paradoxes.
3. Not started on (adding the coins)
4. Added a few more baddies (including a new section to tie in with sequence)
5. As was

Probably early 2010 although I'm not really wanting to enter 2 games in the comp so I may end up delaying. I'm more interested in fans who enjoy playing dizzy games simply getting the enjoyment a new game game brings so may release when ready...shall see...

Update:-
1. Pretty much done now, all puzzles & interactions coded but for a few bits
2. Sequence too is there or there abouts
3. Started added the coins (about half way through)
4. As was (No change), a bit of work to do
5. As was (No change), may keep as is

Thanks with the comments guys & gals, you will be doing a fair bit of train riding to get used to, just as well then in the game you get one of those all day travelling tickets :v2_dizzy_smile:

It must be very cold in that hospital reception... :O :D
All yolks aside, this looks like a wonderfully elaborate game.
those screens look absolutely fantastic! :dizzy_cool:
but why is it spelt "djzzy" :v2_dizzy_confused2:

Looking great!!! Looks like you've puty a lot of work in to colourful backgrounds.
you will be doing a fair bit of train riding to get used to
Wow!!! Sounds fun - It's always extra special when Dizzy gets to ride something in a game - I cant remember train rides ever being fully explored in Dizzy games before - Best I can remember is a short train animation in one of Deltas games. So Im really looking forward to this. Just hope the train comes equipped with snow plough judging by this weeks weather forecast....
but why is it spelt "djzzy"
Just noticed that too - perhaps its Dizzy's Russian cousin?

Thanks, yes I feel the colour gives the game a bit more depth in its appearance.

Well the train only goes on one route but goes back and forth East/West (basically connecting the village to the hospital) and as such is symmetrical. Like you thought be good to have a ride in the game and a train fits in well (can enjoy the countryside on route), plus it has the benefit the player can have a mini break whilst the train transports you quicker than would otherwise be the case. It can be ridden at any time during the game...once Dizzy has paid his fare of course !!!
Oh yes might have to add a snow plough lol...im back out in the snow tomorrow having had a few days off..
It was a bit tricky to do as I had to do in 3 parts and join together and then get all the position coordinates aligned up for the start, movement and finish...I needed Deltas help with the coding on that. To do in one image you had to shrink too much to make it fit and then was blurry.
but why is it spelt "djzzy"

Ha ha, no, its just the style of the font, it is an I :v2_dizzy_happy:

just change the X positions of all the carriages at the same time. I haven't seen it. so am unsure exactly how you want them to move. The train in RRD was rather complex to code (you may have already noticed), although i could probably code it a lot better these days. It's amazing how much you learn in a year...

I just did the coding the way you explained at the time with the example code you gave me & adapted accordingly and yes is pretty complex. I was pleased when I got it working really, its actually in 4 parts as I had to add to get around a certain problem at the time when I was testing.
I gave you an example code? I don't remember that... :v2_dizzy_blink:

Yes your awfully helpful you know (most of the time :v2_dizzy_tongue2:)
Seriously though was no way I could of done it without the example bit of code so thanks for that at the time. You'll find it in the DizzyAge General Coding Queries thread (pages 15-16). The example was for 2 parts which I needed and how to make them able to travel back and update the screens without getting a redeclaration error due to the return which was one of the probs I needed your help with.

Having made a run through Feverbound Dizzy is essentially ready for release.
There are 2 bugs I can't seem to resolve:-
The 1st is very minor, if Dizzy is equipped with the aqualung and eats to replenish his life bar momentarily seems to disappear. Doesn't happen if unequipped. Doesn't effect the game in anyway though.
The 2nd I thought id resolved but occasionally inexplicably when Dizzy is entering/exiting doors or similar he may die. Also had an occasion where the inventory came up on reappearing.
Otherwise I havent come across anything else but will need Alex to do a check.
